I have recently bought an 08 GSA and was dismayed to find fuel on the top of the fuel pump fitting (LHS of tank) to the extent it was dripping off the exhaust onto the floor after a 50 mile ride, and suspected the QD fuel line fittings, as frequently discussed on this forum. On closer examination, I discovered the previous owner have changed the female fitting for a metal one but retained a plastic male, neither being the source of my leak. The female fitting was actually loose in the pump housing/cap and I got at least another half turn of tightening.
I am left with a minute leak, a few milliliters per 25 miles which I hoped 3 bond silicon would seal, but it hasn't and now the issue I believe is that the female coupling threads are not bedded/coated in the green gunge I see when I google the subject, which is stated as a non hardening sealant.
Does anyone know the specification of this sealant or have a link, I am going to try the float conversion advertised on ebay in a few weeks as my fuel gauge doesn't work and don't fancy an endless stream of replaced fuel strips and whilst the pump housing/cap is out of the tank it gives good access to take time to really seal the female coupling.

Any pearls of wisdom very much appreciated, regards Ian

check if there's an outstanding recall for a free fuel pump - they recalled many coz the connections for the pipe crack
if its been messed with you shouldn't buy it - most mods make things far worse -

FYI if its got ESA then the float fuel level sensor that's cheaper and reliable makes sense - but if you don't have ESA it won't work.... but a chap in NL sells a bit that should convert the signal and you keep the wiring stock.

I assume that it has had the fuel pump recall done.
There are a lot of Chinese Q/D `s about that are a different size to the BMW ones, they look the same but the difference is 0.5 mm.

Hmmmm.
The stuff appears to be called Gasoila.
The bike has the metal fuel pump flange retaining ring so suspect its already had the recall work done.
Bike does has ESA to suitable for the conversion.
I wonder if the female coupling has been overtightened before or is indeed the wrong size and has created small cracks in the flange threads. As 3 bond has made it safe to ride, i will remove female coupling during the float conversion and see the condition of the flange around the threads for cracks or damage, and be very generous with gasoila... unless others know better.

I would be tempted to replace the metal female Q/D in the tank with a genuine plastic item and go from there.
Plus a little ptfe tape on the threads.
The 2008 fuel pressure is 3.5 bar at that point.

The recall was for a metal reinforcement ring around the output spigot to be fitted.
The female half of the quick release has a tapered thread and screws into the pump flange. If you over tighten it you will crack the flange.
