Green Laneing Opportunity

Hi Guys not been here for a while, unfortunately business has not been what it once was so no bike, I appear to have lost my account here aswell , never mind just re registered. Schtum will no doubt remember me, he test drove a very nice black 1150 ADV I was selling, for someone in Englandshire, isn’t it fantastic how our hobby can break down centuries old barriers and prejustices I never thought I would see the day I would have an Edinburger in my home, turned out they can be really nice, almost, sort of normal .

Anyway, today Me and the family visited the Whitelee Windfarm in Eaglesham http://whiteleewindfarm.co.uk/, well worth the visit. I got talking to one of the park ranger guys, it turns out they have over 120km of track, generally used by cyclists and walkers.

When I asked the obvious question to my delight and surprise he suggested that in all probability if an origination or club could put forward a viable proposal he could see no reason why it could not be approved.

The gentleman I was talking to turned out to be a biker, He suggested:

• No Scramblers
• No 400cc type Enduro bikes
• Just sensible (sorry about this) Charlie and Ewan types

I think there could be a real opportunity for a wee bit of green laneing here if approached in the correct way,
They might even allow the odd Edinburger in, after all they have to show that they are politically correct.

My own experience of this sort of set up, is that a great opportunity gets quickly spoiled by people who take the piss. Then the land owner gets fecked off and withdraws it.

If you broker a deal, then within reason, see it's either strictly policed or keep it to yerself!!

I don't see any way that bikes would be allowed on the tracks at Whitlee Windfarm, Scottish Power and their owners, Iberdrola of Spain have gone to great lengths to ensure the site is suitable for walkers and cyclists only. the only motorised vehicle allowed on the tracks is the tour bus, there is no way they would authorise tosser types on bikes.....

These set ups are all fine until it goes tits up and there's an accident. Then it's the murky world of liability, 'you let the bikes ride here' .... etc etc ...

Not entirely off post, but I'm about to enjoy another full day riding my big bike over many, many miles of Forestry Commision controlled ground . . . and all with the Commisions blessing.

This will be the 3rd year that this has happened and I doubt it'll be the last.

All it took to gets us "in the door" was one very willing and skilled negotiator who got the Commision on board with the idea of a group of large trail type machines using the tracks and trails within the Commisions control, and low, we were in .

Someone needs to start this thing going. You'll only know if it works if you try it.

Dude, it sounds great....
I would love to run a meeting North of the border, and I am pleased to here that this ranger is keen too.
120km, that is some loop on private estate........
If you need help, maybe I could supply some, you never know, keep me in mind. I also have some good contacts who are trustworthy TRF run leaders, they too would assist in such a meeting for sure. They have over 400cc trail bikes too.....
