Grinding when clutch pulled in and also when throttle opened slightly and shut off

Hey folks just wondering if anybody else is experiencing this issue. It sounds like when you select a gear on a push bike and the bike doesn't change gear.....it's stuck in between gears....that kinda slipping noise when you carry on peddling but go nowhere

I can also feel the same thing when I open the throttle very slightly (say about 2mm movement) for a second and then when the throttle is in the same position but almost closed it does the same thing

If I keep the clutch held in for a couple of seconds and roll I can hear and feel it the most

The bike has just had its 600 mile service and apart from this the bikes great

Any ideas ?

Sounds like your clutch needs attention, ring the nearest BMW dealer for advice before riding it.

I already took it in today for its 600 mile service and asked them to check this but they didn't find anything. To be honest the mileage was almost the same as when I took it in so they couldn't have tried hard

I have no intention of doing anything on this bike. When I sold my r1 I made that decision. Ill pay for everything


Tbh I think they were busy because I got the bike back an hour later than advised and I was sat about for an hour. I got the service for free because of this but it begs the question did they really look at this issue

If the worrying noise is when the bike is still and you only have to pull the clutch in, or play with the throttle a bit, they didn't really have to go on a test ride to check, did they?

That being said, I see dealers are the same around the world: they are reluctant to admit your bike has a problem. And the fact that the WC is an entirely new model seems to compound the problem because, in fact, they just don't know, and they have no previous reference.

The WC IS a noisy bike, so maybe everything is normal.

I think I've Sussed the problem

I went out with my daughter on the back and the bike was perfect. No slipping or grinding noises.

What I did notice was that I had left the ESA in pillion mode. I've just nipped out again on my own with the bike in pillion mode with just me on this time. The noises came back.

I pulled over, changed settings to solo riding and no noises. I road for a couple of miles with a perfect bike. I pulled over, swapped to pillion again and road a couple of miles with loads of miles. Pulled over swapped again to solo and again the bikes perfect again

So it was basically operator error. I'm not sure why, when the problem was down to the incorrect ESA settings, that it manifested itself as a grinding noise when the clutch was pulled in or the throttle opened or closed slightly. I am very relieved though

Hopefully it wasn't just a coincidence....thanks for everyone's help
