Am having a man in to do some stuff, and taking the opportunity to put a ground anchor in for when I finally have to leave the bike out the front. I'm looking for a stockist in Dublin I can get this week. The almax mob will only deliver to the uk, and I'm not in a position to get one across reasonably any more. What are my options in Dublin?
Thoughts?:nenau

find a big old padlock, or lenght steel bent into a "u" shape. cut tiny hole i grough where want locate it, dig out soil and conrete inplace.

done this loads times and much better then anchor bolts. also feck load cheaper if not free.

i have some rebar if you want, just heat and bend into u shape then sink into ground

Anchor

Better still. I got a bus stop or traffic signal pole and filled the hollow with cement then welded on a big trailer hitch to the top it it and sank it into the ground 4 foot so it protrudes about 3 foot above the ground beyond the range of a car jack (these are often used to dislodge low level ground anchors)
A good quality lock and long chain and bobs your uncle. Lets me sleep a bit better at nighttime. Pics to follow over the next few days.

Suggestions are good, but as it's part of a front garden landscaping job, will have to be subtle and aesthetic too :D

The rebar option sounds interesting John, but don't have the means to heat etc.
Will be getting a good quality chain, how resistant is the rebar to attack compared to the better chains on the market?

attack?

if lad wants rob your bike and brings a small grinder no matter what its mounted too a grinder will cut it.

a decent padlock from a dump or scrap yard would be better than rebar as its hardened steel.

here lad is near dublin or posts cheap.

add has many options from cheap to expensive on drop down list

if park of your garden, i would recess any of the items your going to use flush to the ground. that way 1, wont trip over it and 2 cant get bolt cutters in as easy or grinder

cheap option.

go inot hardware store, ask for biggest and longest "eye bolt" plus 2 nuts. thread one nut 3/4 way up, other on 1/4 up and sink it into a concrete hole with top flush to surrounding ground

say cost 5euro

Pete, what about using Parcel Motel to have the Almax anchor delivered?

Damien, I think they said they would only deliver to the address of the cc holder. I'll put the anchor itself in now and get a chain down the line, and just get what I can for now..

Trailer ring eye hitch, come in short and long, good strong steel, weld lugs on the bottom and concrete in a big hole level with ground or higher if ya want. Cheap and available at any farm supplies dealer.:D
