Hi,

Intend fitting a throttle rocker and perhaps grip puppies. (Artheritic digits).

Cannot, however, remove handshields? The nut at the bar-end will not budge.
Frightened to give it too much welly case I break something. I suspect I'm missing something obvious! Or just being a bit of a tart -- probably!

Would appreciate any help from all you would be mechanics out there. Please remember all instructions need to be idiot proof -- because that's who your dealing with here.

Thanks for listening,
Cheers,

AFAIK the bar end bolt just screws into the handlebar end with no other components involved (apart from maybe some threadlock), if it really is badly stuck at a push you could bend the handlebar - but that would take some force.

Obviously as the bars can move you might want to try jamming a thick piece of timber between the end of the bars and the floor and then making sure the force being applied through your wrench is pushing down on the timber.

Note I am not a real wrench type so hopefully some better qualified tossers will be along shortly to comment.

Hi,

Thanks for quick reply.
Still worried about breaking something so will see if any other ideas are forthcoming.
Do appreciate your help though -- at least I'm trying to turn the right bit!

Have you thought about checking to see if they have a reverse thread? I'm no tecchie, but I do recall one or two bolts on my 650 were t'other way round.

just a thought, good luck.:thumb2

Disclaimer: if it breaks, nothing to do with me Guv.:augie

Not much help I know........but I had exactly the same problem when I was fitting my Grip Puppies. As it was due to go in for some warranty work I let the dealer do it which they did with no problem>

The reverse thread idea MAY be correct. It might be a good idea to CAREFULLY try the other direction...........you can usually tell from the feeling whether you are doing them up or they are about to loosen.

Good luck.

NO,no, no,it's the thread lock stuff thats holding you up boy, just keep turning back and forth, and get someone to hold the bars while you do it,you need to break the thread lock,so keep going back and forth, bit'a wd40 and away you go.
M8 of mine had the same trouble.

Hi,

It eventually gave up after doing pretty much what you said.
