Still got my std GS shocks too
don't mind swapping those either. (will need servicing - as any second hand shocks bought should be

Have you tried a lower seat? I'm the same height as you and I've the same bike. I'm at my limit, but I can handle the bike at its original height.
Is the link rod thingy under the swinging arm different?
