If you have a GS 1150 with ABS read on, could save you a VERY nasty experience!

Had an exciting problem recently where brakes failed at low speed, nothing there at all, no residual braking, I usually use the front brake only and got it stopped using the back brake, very scary. Intermittent warning lights etc
Took it to the dealers, ran diagnostics, no problem, they were adamant that any ABS failure should leave you with residual braking. Leaving dealer and got an ABS warning light, took it back, agian no fault found.
Ordered a 2nd hand front sensor as the dealer suggested. As I was fitting it I noticed the Front ABS sensor cable had worn through where it passes through a metal clip on the fork stantion.
I can only assume that the sensor was shorting out and making the bike believe the front wheel had stopped and was therefore applying the ABS leaving me with NO brakes at all. This only happened at low speed but when you are coming to a junction it's not good.

Good of you to share this,
Is it ABS 2 or Servo system?

Al.

Hello Al, Not sure what the difference is but this one did have Servo brakes so I assume it's the Servo system

I'm fairly sure that this was the subject of a recall - mine was certainly done after receiving a letter. Does it have a service history?

I bought it 2nd hand, there was service history with it but don't recollect seeing this in there.

Wow! Delayed response!

I didn't mean that it would be listed in the history, rather that it should have been dealt with as a recall if the bike was 'known' to the dealer network. May be worth asking the dealer if the bike is listed as being one of those recalled.
