Gs 1150 general warning light on

Hi everybody, I'm New here, have been pointed this way by Luke scott, and i dont know if this is in the right place. But anyway,I have a 04 gs 1150 adventure with the servo abs, and the general warning light has come on and won't go off.have changed the brake/tail light bulb (twice just in case) New battery as the old one was gone weak, abs working perfect, fluids all ok,reset the ecu,checked brake pads just in case, and light is still on.comes on when i turn on the key and just stays there.abs does self test and goes out. is there anything that I am missing, the bike is riding perfect and just can't get to the bottom of this light. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

What pray tell is a "general" warning light ?

Not somethibg I've heard of on an 1150

If you have servo ABS then you need to check the brake fluid in the two reservoirs under the fuel tank and not just those in the normal place.

There's the best answer.... check the levels and top up if need be. Pointless doing anything else until you've done that. If the light still stays on after that then we'll take it from there.

I think Giles is referring to the top light. The flashing bottom one goes out when he drives off.

Thanks for that, its the bottom light that is staying on, the one with the triangle.so these are the reservoirs for the servo unit?Will pull off the tank and check them this evening.fingers crossed, will let ye know how I get on. Thanks again.

I hope your tank is low on fuel, the standard 24 litre tank is a heavy bar steward when full, if you have the big Adventure tank better have a couple of extra Weetabix.

Hi guys,just spent a while going through stuff again, took off tank, topped up servo reservoir, took very little oil.checked all connections, put back together..started up, light still there. Took for a ride and abs working perfect, did some very heavy braking with both front and back, all working,servo whineing away as normal. Checked current from alternator 13.9v lights on or off, seems perfect. Any more sugestions? Could it just be a faulty switch??

It might be worth your while having a look at the wiring to the rear light unit. They are Lucas type connectors, and in that area can get pretty corroded if the rubber boot has deteriated.

According to the handbook, the general warning light on it's own without the ABS light flashing just points to the tail light. The actual wording from the manual States:-
General warning light on, ABS light off = Tail light/brake light defective.

Morning again. After sleeping on it I decided to start the bike this morning with jump leads as to help the battery (even though it's brand new, it is only an acid one) put on leads, accidently crossed them for a split second, and though "oh no, more damage done", anyway started bike, light went out. Drove a bit, all seems fine, stopped light came on as normal and started again without leads and light went out again.

Yes, sorry, meant fluid., well light is off now and bike has got a thorough going through in the process, so hope we are good for a nice few miles again.

Still check the wiring to the tail light as Ian said, they do deteriorate with a lot of corrosion. Clean it up and grease all the terminals or you may find you have an intermittant and very annoying problem.

Glad the lights are out though.

Yes will do, I'd say it was suntan small like that.
