I'll move you over to the 1200 section moby, welcome to UKGSer :)

BTW let go off the throttle, it might help :D

Pray it's not new clocks, just been quoted approx £450 to replace mine :( but if you need clocks that'll be in KM's I might know a bloke!

If your speedo has become infested with demons, just as you describe, 10-1 says it's the final drive on its way out / the speed sensor (housed behind the rear wheel) and / or both - the final drive driving the sensor, if you see what I mean. There is also a speed sensor on the front wheel of ABS models but no reports of those screwing up.

Mine did just that, a few weeks ago. Fixed under warranty - new final drive and housing - but it is an 06 bike, 22k miles at the time.

If you put the bike on the centre stand and turn the rear wheel, you may be able to hear the 'scrussssh' of a grinding rear drive....not to be confused with dragging or dirty brake pads. Check for an oil leak around the rear drive, too.

I had exactly the same problem on my 04 GS 1200 last weekend in france.
I stopped, switched engine off, speedo meter sticked to 40km/h.
I disconnected the cable from the clocks, didn't help.
Than I drove on .
After the next gas fill, it disappeared; for the next 300km everything back to normal. Didn't came back since.

Never trust electronics....

Rob

Yup, I've had that problem but have not had it for some while as it seemed to go away after a chunk of wiring loom was replaced after the bike konked out at Le Havre ferryport (I think the gear indicator got water in it and the clutch switch just wasn't working for some reason). I'm not sure if the problem's cured or just dormant.

I found that that the speedo went a bit vague and then under-read and occasionally it stuck at the then current speed. No idea what was causing it though.

The problem never seemed to affect the rev counter though (which makes sense if the sensors are separate) so its worth spending a little time getting to know the rev/speed relationship for each gear when the speedo is working.
