Pretty new to the oilheads so forgive silly questions.
A few weeks ago, the bike went in for a service and by coincidence, on the morning of the service, I got a "LampF" warning light.
As I have had years in the airhead section, and have got use to having mucky hands,(!!!) I decided to let the service guys look at the problem, presuming it was a dud bulb. They didnt have to change the bulb, said it was ok, as it sprang into life when first touching the two wires going to the bulb itself.

The bike and light has been ok since, until the Lampf light came on again last night. An electrical friend of mine tested the bulb, said it was no good and gave me a new one. That doesnt work either.
To that end, i have taken the small black side panel off the bike, on the right hand side, where the auxilliary fuse would normally be (mine hasnt got the aux lights and therefore no fuses).
If i disconnect the small wiring block and then reconnect, then switch on the ignition, said light bulb will flicker, then go out !!
That suggests that the bulb is ok I guess.
Also, it seems im wasting my time looking for fuses as the system doesnt have any . . .is that right ??

Can anyone suggest where to go from here please, with maybe some simple tests (im not electrically biased at all really, but I have got a meter thingy) ?

I hope the above makes sense
PS . .bike is 58 plate standard GS

Thanks all

is there any accesory tapped off the faulty light?
I had the Lampf when i put in a high wattage bulb, put the standard bulb in and all was fine

No fuses - correct.

The warning light comes on when it measures an increase in resistance so I'd be checking for poor connections. Give them a good clean and wazz with WD40.

As an example my 05 has the original, very prone to corrosion, back light unit. My warning light is constantly on due to the corroded connectors fooling it into thinking the bulb has blown.

Thanks so far guys.

Can someone also tell me if the following is normal.. (When everything is perfectly ok) . . ?

With ignition on, (but engine not running) if the light switch is toggled between high and low beam, should the low beam actually stay off (When switched to "low beam") but the high beam come on (when switched to "high beam") ????

Remember, this is when the engine isnt running !

That is correct. Low beam only comes on once the engine is running, but high beam can be switched on with only the ignition turned on.

Thanks for all your replys guys.

I had another hour or two in the shed this afternon.
I dunno exactly what ive done but the headlioght is now ok !!!!!
I can only presume ive undisturbed whatever the fault was and it now seems ok.
I will take another look at some point I guess (or, unless it aint broke and all that !!)

Thanks again
