Hi all, I have looked at comments about the GS and why people love them and found it encouraging. What I also want to do is understand how to put a rule of thumb price on GSs of different plates, mileages and extras. Parkers have a guide and is quite helpful but I am sure there is something also to help me work out value of different extras. I would also like to understand what features have been added to models over time. I am committed to buying a GS new or used it is just working out a fair price to pay on an objective basis. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Outtahere, This Wikipedia article on the 1200GS includes the major features and upgrades by model year.

Bear in mind that some options, such as ABS, trip computer, and electronic suspension adjustment, are factory-fit and cannot be retrofitted, so if you want them, make sure the bike you buy has them to start with. You can get aftermarket heated grips, but the integrated BMW factory-fit ones are the ones to go for.

Opinions vary, but ABS and heated grips help preserve the bike's resale value, as well as being useful all the time you own the bike, and they're the most common optional extras.

Luggage can be retrofitted, but is quite expensive. If you get your bike from a dealer, luggage is a classic haggling point to sweeten the deal.

HTH to start with - have fun and enjoy the process :thumb
