GS ADV what height to you need to be to ride one

I currently have a GS 800 going to move up to a 1200,
I used to have a 1200 a year ago & I always had the seat
Height on the highest setting, I would love to get a adv but
Am I to small for this bike i am 5' 8'' with a 30-31 inch leg
I don't like the lower versions.
 
I ride an Adventure and I'm just under 5' 10" with a 30" inside leg. I rode my bike home from the dealers with the standard seat and managed quite well albeit I was on tip toes when stopped with both feet down. I've since put a low Sargent seat on and I can get the soles of both feet down quite comfortably and manage very well.

I know someone who is much shorter than me that rides one and he manages by slipping off the saddle slightly when coming to a stop. Personally I prefer both feet to touch!

Your best bet would be to try one from your nearest dealer. That's what I did, they put on a low GS seat for me to try, but even the standard GS seat is lower than a GSA seat (I think).

Good advice :mmmm

l know a guy who must be about your height, who took his seat to a custom chopper place - who scalloped it out ,put in gel inserts, recovered it with the original BM seat cover (still matches the rear) £110 job done!.

Dude, I am 5'8" with 30" inside leg..... so a short arse in GSer terms, but I have a 12Adv. OK, I use a little care when looking to do a dab, but that all it is, a little bit. Once moving the bike is easy to ride.
I have the standard Adv seat on the lowest setting and i have reduced the spring preloads front and rear to induce some suspension sag when I'm on the bike.
I can get the balls of both feet or one foot flat to the ground when stationary which is enough of a comfort zone for me to own the bike.

Chad from here makes the 1150ADV look like a 50cc scooter...:eek:

me 5'8" on a good day 30inch leg on tiptoes, I use a lowered BMW seat and it seems fine. Just needs practice and keeping an eye on the road conditions...:augie or you'll be getting practise picking it up...:blast

:)Just carefull where I stop :) have put 7000 miles on the clock in the last year and ridden him through 10 countries. I only have to worry if there is a hill and a side incline. I always lift him off his stand without the engine running so I dont accidently move the throttle and gain an audience !!!. I can easily get him on and off his main stand, its not size just technique. When Im out with other male riders they often offer to help when I move him because they cannot stand my slow pace :) and if they want to Im not going to turn down an offer. I ride him 50miles to work and back when its not icy in the morning. :)

He is the easiest bike I have ever ridden. I love him to bits :thumb2

It's not a 'move up' to a 1200 ... it's a backward step my friend :thumb

Doesn't matter how tall you are, it's down to inside leg measurement, strength, sense of balance etc.

If you have to ask then it's not for you ...

It doesnt matter what others tell you, you are unique, just like everyone else :blast
Get to the dealer and try one with/without the low seat, thats the only way you will know for sure. Its you who will be riding it and you who must feel comfortable and above all confident with it.

Just under 5' 7" & ride a standard GSA with a Touratech Kahedo low seat . Can get one foot down flat or two on tippy toes -

Have to have the sidestand down & use the footpeg as a hop up to get on though :D
 
I'm 6' w/ 34" inseam, GSA std seat in low pos is ok heightwise... Actually had TT/Kahedo low seat that's 4 cm lower than GSA std, but had to get rid of it since knee angle got too steep, my knees started hurting after 15 minutes in saddle... While sitting on the bike in garage.

Sold the low seat and ordered Kahedo high from TT, currently waiting it to arrive.
