GS ADV what height to you need to be to ride one

I'm 4'9" with a 24" inside leg

I owned a 12GSA a couple of years ago and found it no problem, the low centre of gravity inherent on the bike helps

I just lent it over just enough to get one foot down at the lights/junctions - 45 degree lean was usually ok

I now ride a 1150GSA which is heavier and taller:eek:

I have a 30" inside leg and test rode the 2010 model R1200GSA last September. As soon as I sat on it at Alan Jefferies it felt too tall, but was manageable when fitted with my standard GS seat, although still slightly too high to be comfortable at times due to the road camber etc.

The higher centre of gravity and softer, longer travel suspension were bigger concerns though and I much preferred the handling of my standard GS. Both were fitted with ESA, but the "Sport" setting on the GSA was probably somewhere between "Normal" & "Comfort" on my GS. It felt too soft and under damped for me, and didn't instill the same degree of confidence.

I currently have a GS 800 going to move up to a 1200,
I used to have a 1200 a year ago & I always had the seat
Height on the highest setting, I would love to get a adv but
Am I to small for this bike i am 5' 8'' with a 30-31 inch leg
I don't like the lower versions.

I'm same height as you and one up I ride the GSA with the standard seat on - No problem. However, when I take the missus out and we are loaded up with full luggage I put on the lower seat - that just gives me a bit more 'security' as I can then comfortably get both feet planted when stationary. get yourself up to your local dealer and get one out on a test ride! :beerjug:

thanks for all you help & comments, when to local dealer they had no demo to test as they only have new bikes i sat on a standard GS then the ADV had i felt good on it so i am going for an ADV so the hunt is on hopefully stike a deal tomorrow as i have a few dealers to contact for pricing!!!!!

If you end up needing a bit more height, rather than spending a fortune on a new low seat have a think about raised insoles/heel lifts. I just got a pair from amazon (they're called: "Mens Black Air Cushion Height Increase Shoe Lift Taller Insoles"). It gives me an extra 3 centimeters although it's adjustable to 4.5cm. That extra 3cm makes a huge difference confidence wise for me.

Your boot may feel more snug when you first use them but the boot should break in in no time. My TCX sports boots felt fine within a day.

It's a £9 fix.

It also means that, unlike a low seat, you don't compromise the seat to footpeg distance which is part of what makes these bikes so comfortable. (Most of the height gain is in the heel area which doesn't sit on the footpeg when you're riding).

It's not a 'move up' to a 1200 ... it's a backward step my friend :thumb

Doesn't matter how tall you are, it's down to inside leg measurement, strength, sense of balance etc.

If you have to ask then it's not for you ...

Micky,

I like your no nonsense attitude, no bullshit, just the facts :thumb

If you had the standard GS seat on the high setting I can't see it being that different to the GSA seat on the low setting. If you were tip toeing the extra weight up top on the GSA might prove an issue.

Lots of advice - here`s another

2010 GSA with Sergeant seat and lowered frame by 40mm.

Expensive - £1200 plus about £300 for the seat  but like some I love my bike.

I`m 5`9" and it is fantastically `comfort zone`.

Your choice pal but I am sure you will choose well with all the advice.

I'm 5ft 6ins with a 29 inch inside leg and a GSA fitted with a Kaheedo low seat and an Airhawk :clap

Did I mention that I can't touch the ground?

Collected my new bike an 08 1200 ADV from balderstone on sat, took it out for a quick run yesterday in the rain & i had a very large smile on my face, great bike going to just keep the stantard seat on the low setting as it feels good at this height, just to plan my 1st long trip!!!!!
