GS Adventure LC - Panniers / Locks - Massive delays?

You can fit the panniers onto bike without lock. The clamps will still fit onto frames and then just cable tie them shut! You won't of course have security!

That is correct I did exactly that but I just used tape to make sure the clamps stayed shut. They do snap shut and are very secure the tape or cable tie just ensures they stay shut. The lock simply prevents the clamp from being opened.
Mine was this way for two weeks until my lock set arrived these I fitted my self very easy insert key so the lock tabs drop into the barrel insert the lock while turning until the spring tab locates give them a push and a pull to confirm located correctly and repeat for all, job done

Hi,

I've still not got my panniers / locks.

I had one place offer to re-key the locks in house, though this sounds non-standard and I do wonder whether its the "approved" BMW way. This if for LC GSA with alumunium panniers etc. I've also only been told that the panniers need the locks to stay on the bike .. though some interesting tips about cable ties etc. I wonder if this in-house re-keying is related to the problems and change-over to in-factory keying?

Sorry to hear about your boat trip ChrisA .. I planned to use the bike (and panniers) to go to Spain for the summer, and maybe join a friend in Iceland. All postponed for the last couple of months :-/

You have cancelled your trips over the summer, because your panniers have no locks? Is that really true?

Why in God's name didn't you just lob some soft bag kit on the back of your awesome steed, or cable tie the tin cans on and go?

The great news is, summer's over. It's now autumn and will soon be winter, you have six to nine months to get your locks (whether from BMW or that awfully risky fellow you've found) and prepare yourself for 2015.

Please tell us that was a joke. You cancelled a holiday because of missing locks?

Have bmw not sorted this delay out already!!!!!!!

I picked up my bike back in April and yes the locks were back order then for the luggage, but the nice ppl at vines lent me there demo bike luggage with a key till mine turned up.

So there is a way around it ppl don't need to cancel there holiday for it.

Hi guys,

If you're asking me if I cancelled my holiday - not exactly, though the idea of a bike is to be flexible, get on a ferry and go. I am told the locks are needed for the panniers, and without the panniers the bike is almost useless for a 2-up adventure.

Yes, I personally could just get down there with a rucksack even. I've ridden a GSA from London to Bahrain, a Tiger 800XC to Tashkent, done the RBLR 1000, ridden 600 miles across Europe in a day on several bikes including a Hornet 600, and off-roaded around Africa, Cambodia .. and Wales (which is amazing by the way)

However, I got this bike for my girlfriend to join me on the back together with her luggage and camping gear in a little bit of comfort compared to the Tiger.

I was promised 2-3 weeks for the luggage to arrive. The continual promises of luggage arriving "next week" doesn't help with hopeful planning either.
If I'd known it would have been 2 months I would have done something else, arranged a backup plan, or never bought the bike in the first place - and stuck with the Tiger.

Pidcock have given me BMW's customer service number to complain - so that's the plan for Monday. 01709 773 699

Picked up my new GSA this morning - Hooray! :clap:clap:clap

But not the panniers- Boooooooo! :blast:blast:blast

Dealer said unfortunately he had no idea when the locks would arrive but would call me when they do.

Having said that if I did have a trip planned, I'm sure he would have helped me fit something on as a temporary measure. I certainly wouldn't have cancelled it.

Make sure that you check every lock for function and fit when the arrive !

Picked up me GSA this avo. Kind chaps have fitted some Varios inc top box, so IRE we come. I got the quick shifter option fitted that I had on the returned RT.....it's sweeeet! A lot smoother than on the RT....go figure! It's a great option.

Picked my GSA yesterday minus locks. Dealer did manage to bastardize a pair of uncoded barrels so that the panniers were secured to the frame but not locked.

Hi all,

Just an update for anyone interested -

I "complained" to BMW Customer Service yesterday. A little investigation has been underway between BMW, Pidcock and suppliers.

It seems that orders placed were being quietly "cancelled" at the suppliers end with no feedback or warning to the guys placing the order. Apparently some IT functions are investigating, they claim they've not changed anything but these orders are now "sticking" rather than being cancelled all of a sudden. I've now got to wait another 2 weeks for the locks to arrive at least.

I'm not happy that these orders were being cancelled somehow, though also not happy that these orders seemed to be placed in a "fire and forget" style and their status not investigated before now. It still seems weird that 5 out of my 9 locks have arrived, even with this cancellation issue.

Anyway, a warning to anyone else placing orders - especially for pannier locks, is to get the order number, make sure its status is looked at regularly, and make sure its not "cancelled" for some mysterious reason.
