GS Adventure Lower Seat

Apologies if there is a dedicated section on this (i'm new and can't find it anyway)

just got a gsa (hmm, what a beast - what have i done!) i have the standard gsa seat on low setting with standard rear shock selected. i'm 5'11'' but i have short legs and a long fat body (just like E.T). i'm toying with seat options and i'm told a standard GS seat woukd fit and be lower.

does anyone have any info/links/advice/experiences on such things?

most of the time i'm ok but i live on an unmade road on a hill with a driveway sloping up and sideways and a tricky manouver into the garage. i'm worried i'm going to drop it. i've been close when... in the dark my foot dissapeared in a pot hole and the other foot was also trying to find the floor.

As I'm only 5'8" (just) when I got my '08 GSA from Williams Manchester they supplied me (FoC!) with the low seat from a 1200 GS. Made the bike much more manageable, only difference looks wise is its all black so no red stripe but that's fine with me.

Also wherever possible, I tend to just put my let foot down when stopping, keeping my right on the back brake at low speed.

oh, also, as I've also got a steeply sloping drive to my garage where my bike's kept, I always walk the bike back down in gear with the engine off, using the clutch rather than the brakes to control the speed I walk it back at.

much appreciated. i think a low gs seat may be too low. maybe a standard gs seat will do. i think i'll see if my local dealer will lend me one for a test run. if anyone has one for sale let me know.

I'm considering a GSA too, changing from my 08 GS. I'm 5'10 and find the standard seat just that little high, but nothing I couldn't manage. I'm going to try a standard seat or my Sargent seat and see how that feels....

I'm 5'11'' and had the same problem but I did try a std gs seat and it was spot on.......however I did not want to change the look so had my seat lowerd, you are just down the road from me (Beckenham) and am more than happy to meet and you can try mine Will pm my no.

I'm selling my 57 plate GSA it has a sargant low seat which I'm selling bought march this year as new would like to see a return of £230 cost over 300 with P&p its black with red piping and the M logo very smart extremely comfortable i'm 6ft and can place both feet comfortable on the deck. Last year I bought a GS rather than a GSA because for my first GS the adventure model just felt too big with me being only 5'10"........scary almost! Last week I had a loaner GSA from Jeffries for the day while mine was in for service and used my own Sargent seat on it, it was spot on for me and I'm sold, the GS days are numbered, I'm going GSA.

I had a low GS seat bought off eBay. It made a slight difference I thought but then I was new to the GSA anyway.

On long runs it made my legs ache a bit because obviously sat lower you're legs are more "folded". And because their is less foam, my arse starts to ache sooner!

Recently sold the low seat to a mate and to be honest the origonal seat is more comfortable on the legs and arse and now I'm more used to the bike I don't find the height a problem.

I have standard seats on my GSA to improve pillion comfort (we had a standard 1200 previously with no comfort issues). I measured footpeg to footpeg and the standard seat in high position is exactly the same as the GSA seat in low position which was what I was after but you then have the option to go for the lower position which gets you around 20 mm closer to the ground. I suggest you get round to the dealer and try the standard seat to see if it gives you what you're after. BTW I paid £270 for a standard pair of seats new and got IIRC £190 for the GSA seats so not too expensive either.

I'm 5'11" with a short wheel base and after seven months with the GSA find the higher seat a more comfortable option. I rode one with the lower seat but found my 48 year old knees used to lock up after an hour. It was a case of adapt or start on the cod liver oil for the joints !!

I have the Sargent low seat fitted on my 2009 1200GSA.
My inside leg measurement from crotch to floor with feet together is 32".
I can place both feet flat on the ground now that the suspension and seat have settled/bedded in.

Just low seat and standard suspension but admit can only get one foot down and thats not flat lol does not matter what i get on i have trouble with little leg syndrome

well, i finally got my standard gs seat yesterday . i put it on and i can put both feet down flat . the down side (as sombody else pointed out) is that my legs are scrunched up a bit more when riding .

i did a 60 mile round trip last night but after 40 miles my backside was telling me the standard seat provides much more cushioning. i'm a fussy bugger when it comes to comfort hence why i bought a gs in the first place.

what doesn't work for me might be ideal for you so don't take my word for it. i definately think the standard gs seat is a good idea when getting used to the bike. i have to say the charcoal grey colour on my alpine white adventure really looked good!

if i get a chance today i'll post some comparison pics with height indicators.

p.s: the standard (04) gs seat may be up for sale soon.

At 5'10" I noticed that with the standard GSA seat in low it was more difficult to get the bike of the side stand compared with the slightly lower GS. With a full tank of fuel & luggage I'm guessing it would be worse. If that's the case, does a lower say Sargent seat make that more of an easy move?

with the standard gs seat fitted on my gsa yesterday i found it easier to get off the sidestand and it also gave me more confidence paddling the bike around with my feet. i'm paranoid of having to brake suddenly on a country lane (and when braking my servo brakes on the 06 gsa are like coming out of hyperspace!) i'm worried that if my feet are on uneven ground i'm gonna be in trouble.

Yes, Same Seat for GS and Adventure. As I mentioned in another repley, Stock low seat is okay only for short trips. The best Low seat is from Sargent. I had one for my GS and one lowered/heated on RT. Very very comfortable. Check ebay
