GS Adventure

Hi guys,

I've finally decided to trade in my ZX6R for a brand new GS Adventure. I'm new to BMW ownership, and after speaking to a couple of dealers, I've got some of questions for the group:

- are all dealers offering the same prices for the same spec bikes?
- is it worth it shopping around for the best deal, or just go to the nearest dealer and order it?
- what kind of "extras" should come with the bike (free first service, etc.) and are they pretty much set for evey dealer?
- do you have any other advise when buying GS Adventure?

Ive just bought one, but in Spain. Look for the bike you want then the best deal on finance or extras. My experience is that the ability of dealers to offer deals is mixed. I bought mine form the dominant dealer in Bcn. But prolly wont have it serviced there.

I can say after four days of ownership that it is a very wise decision that you are about to make.

I've been ringing dealers about an adventure,
they have all quoted the same prices on the phone but are open
to negotiation if you meet them face to face,
don't expect to much though.

I did'nt buy my GS from my nearest dealer to save a few quid,
but due to warranty and dealer incompetence, i spent more money on fuel than money saved on the purchase of the bike.

I found this with jap bikes as well - much better to buy from a local dealer.

After posting my questions, I found all treads about the price change on 04 Adv - seems like a better choice to buy next year. For extra £100 you get a large fuel tank and heated grips.

You don't get Heated Grips for £100 extra...........they're £175-200 extra.
On a 2004 GSA you get Big Tank ( a must for this style of GS ), Black engine........Plus low enduro 1st gear and knobbly tyres (which can both be de-specced to normal 1st gear and road tyres).
All for £8595 OTR
1st service should be free,but check at purchase..........some dealers charge when it should be free.
Popular extras for the GSA are Engine Bars and Heated grips, plus ABS which helps resale and is a safety feature regarded highly by some people.
Apart from that just check seat height for the FOC low/high seat in 2 tone colours or plain black options.

There are deals out there on GS Adventures, I've just bought one for collection on Jan 2nd and I had good deals offered from 3 dealers over the phone. I simply told them what spec I wanted and they went away and found a bike and made me a very good offer, one couldn't match my spec exactly - I wanted the enduro gearbox but they couldn't get that, although they did offer clear indicators instead.

I effectively got the ABS for free.

I believe that all the hype about the 1200GS has got dealers worried that they will be left with 1150's to sell.

Nice one.

Got a bike for a ride today - very impressed. Considering the size of the bike, it handles as good as the ZX6R. The quote I've got is £9750 for GS Adventure, ABS, 30l tank, heated grips, engine bars, clear indicators, slick tyres and a low seat (cannot beleive I need a low seat, you must be 7' tall to go for the high one).

Now need to decide which colour to go for - silver or black. The second one looks exceptionally good, but requires a lot of looking after, the silver is very practical indeed.

Kiroh....did you specifically ask for the price on the 2004 list??

I'm pretty sure its a better deal...I asked at Sawbridgeworth and Prestige in Hertford and Bexleyheath respectively.........sounds to me that they've told you the 2003 price.....its the one in their little black folder that you want mate!!

(Didnt ask the question at Prestige but the chappy at Sawbridgeworth said the 2004 offer one could be ordered now)

I'm pretty sure he had to reduce the price by £150, because the 2004 model has 30l tank, but that's all.

The dealer sad that the next year adv doesn't change much, apart from the tank, but gives you to choose between road/off-road tyres, black/non-black engine and seat hight.

Get a black one and buy a baglux tank cover to protect it. Baglux's silver cover looks, frankly, awfull. The black compliments the bike brilliantly!

It`s got to be SILVER

Go for the silver one.The colour is unique to the Adventure so it`ll never be mistaken for the standard black GS.
Don`t bother with the Baglux just get the dealer to throw in the BMW Tankbag as part of the deal.
