I know that we all like a photo on here, so I thought that I'd show you this one taken by my mate at the BMW Club track day a week last Monday.

This guy was having a lot of fun and was totally consistant every lap coming over the mountain at Cadwell.

These LC's are very quick when pushed hard, and this fella was probably one of if not the quickest guy around the circuit....

Poetry in motion! :thumb

Looks like somebody I know. BMW employee, ugly bugger, speaks with an accent?

He looked pretty normal to me, well until he got on the track.

Yes they were Anakees, and he did have the T/C switched off with yellow triangle showing on dash.

I do love to see these bikes ridden properly and the GS-LC is great fun on the track and can hold its own with a lot of sports bikes, particularly on a tight track like Cadwell.

As well as many beema’s, other bikes there on the day were RR’s, Fireblades, R1’s and Panigales etc.

To be honest, I know only one guy who turns up in full BMW branded leather and that is him. A wealth of info regarding riding bikes but his passion is more vintage car like.

When see a bloke or a lass wringing every ounce out of a big bike like that, I honestly couldn’t care whether they are employed, self-employed or unemployed, whether they are ugly, pretty or in between, or whether they talk with an accent, Queens English or can’t speak, I just have respect for their riding ability, and this guy was great entertainment on the day, and he certainly wasn’t the only rider wearing BMW branded leathers.

Except for longer straights the GS is a very capable bike on the track.Especially on the brakes due to TL you can take real sportbikes! But I'm done taking the GS there.Especially on Milchelins who tend to give you no warning before they let go when they get hot...totaled my GS when they let go in a fast turn.Painful day for body & wallet...That was on a aircooled GS.
On a LC with Anakee3 - this must be a brave man...:thumb
With Conti RoadAttack3 he would have been faster/safer...
Saw a video of Juergen Fuchs once on a R1200GS-LC killing regular blokes on S1000RR's on track...:D

I have never run out of grip on a GSA, just out of ground clearance. But then you just drag the footpeg all the way around the corner but beware the crash bars :D

tanneman I have a GSA-LC with Ohlins TTX and the footpegs can touch riding hard.Running out of grip with Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2 or Conti Road Attack 3 on the street no !
On the track if you are in the fast group they will get hot if you do enough laps and eventually will let go as they are not made to operate in these high temperatures you don't reach on the streets...because even super fast street riding is maybe 70% track speed max...IMHO

I'd like to do Cadwell on the LC, only ever having ridden Knockhill on my very first '04 1200. Even then, I got a guy on a GSXR1000 round the outside coming onto Hislop's. I thought I was having a good dice with a 600 until I came into the pits and discovered it was a 1000 and he was clearly a bit slow.....:blast

Probably true in California, which is the only place I've ever dragged the pegs on a GS - going up Mt Hamilton and on Alpine but not necessarily the case in Britain where road and track temperatures are quite a lot cooler.

Back in the day when I was into this track nonsense I would go out with David or Damien for a bit of a play on the track on the BMW club events. I didn't have the problem with grip (Michelin Anakee if I remember correctly because I have had Michelins for years now), just set the suspension 2up and hard to jack it up for the ground clearance and ride it smoothly meaning longer corners and later apex to keep the speed up. You have to measure the throttle because the rear can let go so a bit of patience is advised out of the slower corners. I usually had the 11S for track duties and it served me well. A lot of hard work especially around Cadwell and Oulton but oh so enjoyable. Have fun but don't be shy on the GS. I followed one of the Ride Magazine guys on a 13 reg GS when they came out and it was moving the rear a bit :D

I also put a lot of trackmiles on my R1100S.Lot's of fun & good memories almost 20 years ago. Then on the R1200S.But when the S1000RR came out I was done taking boxer to the track.Still take the S1000RR to the track 4 times a year just to stay in the game...:thumb
Not o say you can't have fun and be fast on the GS-LC.But the S-RR is soo much faster and has more suitable tires unless you run 17 inchers on the GS which robs you an inch of ground clearance...can't win...;)
Have fun...:thumby:

So you totalled your GS when the tyres let go ? And nothing at all due to lack of feedback from a telelever front end ?

Absolutely nothing ! Actually TL is the best feature on the track as you can brake super late and hard an can take real sportbikes on corner entries because of no forkdive and super stable no rear wheel up in the air...just to get passed on the next straight and taking them again into the turns...:D
If the GS had 150 hp and 17 inch wheels to run real sports rubber it would be super cabable on the track because of TL , torquey boxer that builds up no gyro and upright seating position which gives you a good overview on how to take the next victims...:thumb Of course stiffer shocks,a little more ground clearance and 25 Kilos less would be icing on the cake !
R 1250 XR....:beerjug:

To use one of usual comments . Bollox and Bullshit.
He explained that due to the temps in the tyres they let go , try reading the post before you comment ffs
