Hi,
Today - managed to get my wife to go for her first ride ever on a motorbike (my 1200GS). However we discovered a problem we hadn't considered, because of arthritis she cannot get her leg through the gap between the topbox and me.
So off came the topbox and she found she could just about swing her leg round the back of the bike to get to the sitting position, but then felt very nervous that she was going to fall of the back of the bike, even though I rode very sedately.

Question : does a backrest exist (other than Sargent - £300) that might do the trick?

Backrest

We found the Sargent one from NN very good, good support and very comfortable. However if your wife has difficulty getting on the bike with the top box on; will she be able to manage it with a back rest present.
Sorry that you are too far from Plymouth to try ours.

GS1200 Backrest option

Hu guys, my wife wants a backrest for 'security', so I've been eBaying and found this one, pic below. Anyone know where it is from or perhaps used it themselves. Assume you'd have to take topbox off for it to fit, but rarely use TB unless off on a long run (days away).
Seller says it has got an 'mv sticker on back', but I don't recognise 'mv' :mmmm
Any help much appreciated, cheers, Paul

CHECK THIS ONE OUT

I have this one, it's the only one I found compatible with the top case, there are many others but for me having to leave the top case at home because of the backrest was not an option, when you're travelling two up every inch of space counts.

It folds down & forward (you'll need someone to help you with this) and it's adjustable and veeeeery comfortable (so she says). You may have to remove the lower "cushion pad" you have on the top case.

These guys at A&S say it's for use w/o top case, BS, see mine below. I guess they haven't tried one, I'm posting this link because the ebay one might go away after a while plus they won't ship the the U.K. (you're in the U.K. are you not?) The guys who are selling them on ebay were very nice and professional (they do indeed ship from England) might not be cheap but i'ts worth every cent.

This is a crappy picture, let me know if you want a bigger one.

Magadahonda, thanks for the info mate, it arrived whilst I was away, so can't play with it until 12th Sept, I paid £28 plus postage so was pleased.
Looks identical to your pics. I'm travelling through Europe right now, making my way to Portugal. Will update this post when back and have it fitted. Cheers, Paul
