What is it with pigeons and GS’s?.. every time I go out, I’m nearly totalled by the stupid things.

Had one clip my front this morning!

Last Sunday (early), I was going to Sherburn Café for breakfast and was nearly hit 3 times, twice having to duck so the stupid things did not hit my head. I’ve never know this on any other bike only just recently having bought the GS? Either there has been an explosion in Pigeon numbers, they have become thicker than normal and are actually waiting for bikes to fly into, or the GS is that quiet, it creeps up on them and they just fly out?

Did once have a pheasant hit my windscreen in the car at 60 mph.. for sure you don’t want to be hit by them as it would kill you if they hit square on.. also seen a HD that I though had hit a wall as all the folks were crushed under the engine.. but in reality, all he’d done was hit a pheasant!!

So a pigeon in the visor is not going to end well that’s for sure… Just can’t seem to avoid the stupid things at the moment?

Is it just me :surrender

The buggers are out to get us.. that is for sure.. Off out now.. see how many close shaves I get :)

You could try fitting a deer whistle which makes an ultrsonic warning sound that may work on birds :duck:

Pigeons are fine, its the bloody wild boars, and deers here, and not the old dears, because they are bad also............

just the one.. shot out of the hedge and flapped about in front of the head before buggering of... useless things!!...

might try the deer whistle... or a louder exhaust :)

I hit one this morning, or one hit me more to the point. Hit the screen and then up and glanced off my helmet. Thank god it wasn't square in the face!!!! All I saw in my mirrors was a cloud of feathers!

I think it is a question of intelligence, or rather lack of it. Have you noticed how magpies, very clever birds, will peck at some roadkill in the middle of the road until you get close, then nonchalantly hop off to the side of the road just in time. In contrast the pigeons sit there in the road taking no notice of approaching traffic until at the last moment they look up, see a vehicle and apparently think "Oh dear what shall I do - I know, I'll take off directly towards the approaching vehicle."

having seen what a phesant did to my car windscreen at 60 mph (it was like somone had thrown a froxen chicken at it as hard as they could). I'm sure even a Pigeon at 60-70 mph would do you some seriouse damage... I know you think you'll waft it away with your hand or something LOL... forget that... one full on im sure would not be a good outcome... !!

I got hit by a pigeon on the Newbury bypass last year at about 70 mph, smashed into the side of my helmet first I knew about it was when it hit me, it felt like someone had hit me with a baseball bat, luckily I’d slowed down from around 90mph my reaction was to let go of the throttle and I managed to get over to the side of the road, managed to get my side stand down and just sat there trying to stay with it.
I can’t begin to tell you how much it hurt, I thought my teeth were going to fall out !! My pals pulled up beside me, they thought it was hysterical, they said it looked like a pillow had exploded, it’s not something I ever want to experience ever again

Not pigeons, but I was hit by a duck. I had seen a pair of them sat on the grass at the edge of the road, they waited until the last minute before drciding to take off, one went straight through the screen hitting me a glancing blow on the shoulder / helmet. Now I have a Rallye with the smal screen it does make me wonder what the outcome would be without the screens protection.

Them Berkshire pigeons are known to be tough, glad everyone is ok though, it is rather unsettling, even them big insects startle you sometimes, hence why helmets have visors...........

LOL.. reminds me of touring Spain one year ... was that hot we had our jacketts on, but open... and a huge bug hit me in the chest at about 70 mph.... totally winded me... had to stop, get breath back, but had a massive bruse for weeks after....

Couple of years ago I was headed to work early morning and a pigeon flew out of the hedgerow. It missed my bike completely hurrah! However I managed to head butt it on it way past me, boo! I’m not sure exactly where it impacted my helmet but it was at the front as my visor was covered in white dust where the damn thing ‘exploded’, feathers everywhere . I was amazed the visor didn’t crack, Shoei quality I guess. The only damage was a sore neck for couple of days from the whiplash effect of head-pigeon meeting at speed.
