GS but fitting ADV shocks

Hello - I think I am right that I can fit ADV shocks out of the packet and replace The ( yr2000 ) GS shorter shocks
If I can, would It be really dumb to fit ADV at the rear and keep the GS on the front.
20cm ! Might be a little twitchy

Why - the rear is going and I want more hight but im too tight to get the front right now

They'll fit - I have no idea of how the altered geometry will affect the handling.

The extra shock length will mean that your centre and sidestands are going to be too short...

Mike's right...yes you can, but it will definitely affect geometry and therefore handling...in theory, I guess it'll make the steering faster, but it will also change the way the tyres react and cause all sorts of stuff that could well be sphincter clenching.

If you already have the ADV rear shock, I'd fit it and ride it on a known, safe sort of road to see what happens (but I'm stupid like that ).....if you haven't, I'd wait.....

No, actually, I wouldn't.....I'd stump up the 12 quid subscription then place a 'wanted' ad in the FS&W section......thousands of GSers have changed up for aftermarket shocks, so there are probably hundreds of pairs of original fitment ADV front and rear shocks around in forgotten boxes ...I have a set in my 'spares' collection for example, but they're not for sale 'cos I know that one day I'll need to get my Wilbers set renovated, but the chances are you'll EASILY make back your 12 quid and still get a matching pair of WP ADV shocks

Not from the factory they weren't. There was a persistent rumour spread about Adv shocks from before launch, but they've only ever been fitted with Showas from the factory...

I honestly thought that mine were WP......but under the BMW roundel, it does say 'SHOWA'

It was weird - the WP rumour started before the Adv was launched and still persists. Shame really - it would have saved us a lot of money in after-market shocks if it had been true...

I cut the sidestand and added a piece in probably 25mm or 30mm would do fine.

I had a stock front and adv rear on for a long time, centre stand may still be ok but you need flat surfaces or the wheels are close to the ground

I have fitted gsa shocks to my bike and have covered over 8k miles and can confirm that the swop has no adverse effects on the handling.
The stock sidestand can be used, but only if you add a rocky roads fat foot (riser model).
The centre stand in my opinion is too short and ideally needs swopped for the gsa one, although you could have blocks welded to the bottom of your existing stand to solve the problem.

I changed mine from STD to adv.

My std shocks were totally shagged after 80K miles and I didn't use the BMW adv spec shocks anyway, (ohlines) so my experiences may differ to others.

Nothing has changed by way of twitchiness or cornering caused by the higher setup.

The upgrade shocks are vastly different to the BMW ones.

Ride height is 2'' higher, main stand and retracting springs + spring connector need to be adv.
You can get away with a puck on the sidestand, but she will lean more.

Warning, you may not see much height difference/benefit if the adv shocks are fecked, as they also wear out.
