I've removed the rear frame and had it powder coated. I had to drill out the two fixings for the rear rack (under the seat) as they both sheared. There were some captive fixings in the frame and I need some more now. BMW tell me they don't sell them, thanks...

All the blind bolt fixings I find are way too big. I tried (and failed) to make some of my own. Does anyone know where I might get something that might work please?

And...as I walked past the GS and knocked it slightly there was a proper firework display as the fuel pump connection shorted at the multi connector and chased the plastic shielding up for a couple of seconds, filling the garage with white smoke. Haven't touched that for ages! How lucky was that:blast

Ah ...

Thanks. If only I'd know that before I bought a pillar drill and drill vice to try and make some:blast

... but now you have a pillar drill, which is a proper man-toy and worthy of note :thumb

We sometimes use these kinda things at work and they do the job fine, not sure how they will last on frame fixings though. You can crimp them up using a larger nut over a bolt thats the same thread size as the captive nut if needed, might want to put a shake proof washer under the oversized nut to stop it spinning.

I'm pretty sure they're close to the original fixing. I recovered one on the drilled out section. The hole is small and blind and the seat fits over the top of the nut so probably not too much room for larger nuts. I'll probably put a split washer on it though. You can see why they only recommend 5kg on the rack though as these fixings are only small and take all the weight hanging out over the back.
