GS is still the best !

Well all i can say is I have rode 100 of thousands of miles on BMW GSA's GS, GS RALLYE 1250, Iv downed science 2007.... and what a super fun time its been the GS is like a well worn slipper the most comfy of all ADV bikes without doubt it ha sth slow grunt torque and the 1250 has somewhat of punch. But for me a lot of the fun has turned into a wee bit same old same old. So after my accident last year I sold my GS 1250 Rally and bought a Auto goldwing bagger that proved to much for my injured leg. So I then got fitter waited and my new Ducati fully v4s arrived at Nottingham. Due to covid and the v4 engine recall I had to ride from another dealer spent all afternoon and 150 miles riding the v4 what a super machine , but there were too many no's for me and I figure in about 2 years it may be the bike. Again I was always comparing it back to the BMW GS range. Then for some reason i don't know what i was attracted to the new Orange KTM 1290s, having rode the older 1290 i wasn't sure it would be for me.

But go ride one! "WOW! for me its agile lighter flickable easier to push about in yard and garage it's as ugly as fook but it grows on you cant say GS is pretty ! The low down power is amazing as is the missile as MTS calls it. The build quality in a lot of area's is better than BMW which is defo going south! The smile it puts on your face i worth the bloody greasy chain! When all the extras Akra Top box lights etc arrive from Austria im sure after personalising it the KTM will be a great bike I prefer it to the Ducati for many reasons. The GS however will alway's be the King for comfort and smooth riding but there getting heavier and heavier. If they come out with a 900cc tweeked boxer with a light chasis and all the led and stuff it would for sure be a winner. For now im going give the "Jaffa" a go and see how my poor ankle and leg get on with it only done 450 miles so far but its made me happy and the pals i ride with have BMWs and again i feel the KTM is a adv bike more than a Ducati v4 which is a sportsbike adv bike.

The KTM LC8 engine is fun the build is good seats and indicators will be sorted.Even the MITAS tyres work well.

As long as you ride what you like and not what someone else says ride "Smile" and who knows myself and other KTM and Ducati turncoats my well come back to mr BMW later on......

We are all different !
The bike that makes me smile the most currently is my £2000 Benelli TNT !!

I rode my mates ER50 the other day and still have the smile now remembering riding it to Porthmadog at 16 from Stourbridge . Oh the days of fun , looking at it tho reminds me of the pain.....

Blinkered cliché number 22…..TICK :-)

My various mates in the trade must all be wrong, however I’m glad you love it.

People used to tell me early Ducati’s were unreliable, my experience with 6 of them was different.

I guess they must, though I doubt you even have a clue what bike I’m talking about .

Well, just hang in there, and practice, practice and practice. I'm sure you'll get the hang of it eventually :JB :JB :JB :okay

(i know, I know, it's always more fun to ride a slow bike fast than riding a fast bike slowly :aidan )

As you very kindly put up a picture I think I’ve got a reasonable idea of the bike you’re talking about. Plus in your earlier comment when you mentioned the £2,000 price it was always likely to be the 125 rather than an old triple.

Benelli and Chinese bikes bikes are generally at the bottom of any list for reliability and depreciation. Woods Motorcycles used to stock Benelli when the big triples came out and dropped the franchise as the bikes were a nightmare. I’m being factual and not on a Boxerlust type fantasy.

As mentioned before I’m glad you like it. Why does it make you smile the most at the moment?

I guess MCN agrees that the GS is the fastest bike for backroads beating out the 2021 1290 SADV-S despite being a little tame compared to the KTM on top of the rev range :thumb Nothing a 160hp/nm 2023 R1300GS could not fix :thumb
As for Arsey the GS lacking some ownership factor that you don't look back to it parking it after a ride and walking into your house,hotel...whatever.I get it ! A modern version of the R1100S with the shift-cam boxer and TELELEVER would be that bike you'll love to ride like the GS but also sexy looking and proud to own full of soul and charakter with a K as in german...Good looking & sexy as the R1100S is until this day !
Sadly lacking in todays BMW boxer range...I'm sure not only me am still waiting for a true replacement for the R1100S. A sportbike not as extreme as the S1000RR full of charakter of the boxer-twin...Fun and capable enough to ride on a track and still practical as a S1000XR with bags, centerstand and luggage rack to be enjoyed on a 2-3 week holiday trip in summer ! That would be the ultimate present to celebrate 100 years of BMW Boxer motorcycles in 2023 :thumby: Until then the 1250 GS has to do...;) Come on BMW bring us the R1300S and then Boxercup 2.0 as a opener for MotoGP or WSBK :thumb2 I loved my R1100S as also Boxercup racing even if the S was a little low on power, vibey and a tad heavy ! But even today it is a great looking streetbike and great fun on backroad and one of the best looking bikes ever made !
