GS is still the best !

Knut I'm with you the guy in the video is a clueless idiot...The KTM being a GS-killer...LOL Guys coming from sportbikes will be bored by the KTM's top-end and being much happier on a faster and feel more like home on a comfortable and practical superbike like the S1000XR.I myself like the XR too but the fun top-end rush comes for me with too much of a price...I'm too lazy to shift and won't get me another bike with a chain and would miss the delicious feel of the strong low and mid-range Torque the shift-cam GS gives...But to each their own !
One thing for sure it will be much harder for KTM & Ducati to graft a Telelever like suspension and shaft drive to their bikes to really challenge the GS than BMW up the power to 160 HP/NM :thumby:
With that there would be ZERO reason to look at anything but a GS...The XR still would be viable for people who prefer the character of an inline-4 to a more lazy twin...I myself like thew gruffness and agression of the S1000 motors but in the end I always prefer the feel and character of the boxer to any other motorcycle engine !

Lots of comments stating they'd buy one, if only KTM's reliability was better - they've certainly done more recalls...

Just had a brake recall for my 790. I'm fine with it. I don't recall many bikes not needing a recall at some point.

The guy that bought the (£29k !) Honda Goldwing after I returned it just wrote to me. He wanted to know if i'd had any trouble with the electronics as it broke down last week. Needed recovering to the dealers (Wheels) who rang me by mistake to inform me they'd got the bike there.

I guess if it happens to Honda's too.....

I do think the 2 year non-extendable warranty is very poor though and might be enough to push people towards the BMW. Not me though

Yep the GS is still the best - I'm on number 6 in a row since 2005 - no other bike comes close for my everyday needs.

Surely a 125cc scooter would cope with navigating the environs of Cambridge to go sit in an office ?

Sorry folks, his creditability is valued zero in my book, so this video means nothing to me...

The guy you are talking about is an ex police rider with the Met. Also a GS owner or ex-GS owner. He has tested more bikes on his channel than you have dreamed of owning.

Yeah but we know that some police riders have trouble changing gear ;)

I know, he should know better....

Better than 'discovering the huge improvement, better than promoting a scam (he kept promoting even after he was explicitly notified he was subject to fraud)...
If you ask me, for all I know, the guy is paid off.

Sorry, still no creditability in my book....

Teapot one is so desperate to make a living from Youtube, after resigning from the MET, that he will say anything.

You have a choice not to watch him don't you? So are you watching specifically to come in here and moan about him? Perhaps you could use your time more wisely. I generally enjoy his reviews and don't think your critique has value. I choose to watch.

I always thought he was called Teapo Tone:blast

Apex why anyone would buy a 100 hp Goldwing that weighs more than a 1250 RT with a fat passenger on the back is beyond me...;) But I still would get a G-W over any Harley Dresser !
Tanneman the guy in the video might be a cop (so what) but he for sure did not test anything going down a straight road and talking shit about how fast the KTM is...A test would be going fast on a twisty road or even better on a track and then giving some impressions about handling, stability and acceleration and brakes as also wind protection, vibration and mpg !
Nothing like that is this "test"...

Have you watched the video?. At the begining he says it is not a test but a first impressions on the way home from the dealer. This is a two week real world test.
If he took it on track and said it was better than the GS (as it would be) you would be the first to cry FOUL it's not a proper test and the GS would beat it on the road. You can't have it both ways.
For your info Teapot one does have a huge amount of riding experience including riding 74,000mls round the world on a GSXR 1000.
I don't know about in the US but UK bike cops are very good riders.

I don't watch him because I find him intensely irritating - he needs to convince manufacturers to keep lending him bikes to review so will never be completely impartial - I hope he can scratch a living from his venture and wish him well.

Funny that, bod does well on Youtube testing bikes and sharing his impressions (even before he left the Met). Now says that GS in not the best for him and gets ridiculed by those with blinkers on. Get a fucking life, everybody has different likes and dislikes. The GS LC is not the end all and be all and a niche from one of the smallest mainstream motorcycle manufactures. Even the poster above went and bought a piece of shit that he occasionally rides.

These guys on jootube are mostly clueless attention whores trying for fame and/or a quick buck...I would love to do some real testing but lack the funds to buy the bikes and put them through some real test to save people money and buyers remorse.Especially where the media often lacks the truth and likes all the new stuff in order to keep the advertisement money coming...
A real test would be a acceleration run from 5 to lets say 125 mph because nobody will abuse the clutch from a dead start if you actually paid for a bike with your own money. Then let's say a acceleration run from 62 to 125 mph and then braking from 62 mph - 0 . Then Vmax and if factory bags are available the same with bags to see if the bike is stable at full speed...Mpg at legal road speeds...As for handling ease of steering in tighter slower turns compared to stability at high speed turns. That would be a real test as the rest is personal preference ! Sadly all on the tube you see people riding around and talking about how great the bikes they ride are...Useless information and for sure no real tests or comparable evaluations...The ugly truth is mostly revealed after a personal test-ride or if not possible after a costly mistake buying a bike that did not live up to all the hype and expectations...
I myself had an experience myself about 2 products so over-hyped in the media that the let-down was even bigger and so the disappointment after the high expectations lately...A 2021 KTM 1290 SD and a 2020 Mustang GT350...Both total P.O.S.'s for different reasons... But on the tube just rants & raves...buy their owners or so called testers ;)
Be careful what you read or see as most of it is utter B.S. and the truth often gets censored off as it doesn't meet the "community standards" :D
