GS is still the best !

Funny that, bod does well on Youtube testing bikes and sharing his impressions (even before he left the Met). Now says that GS in not the best for him and gets ridiculed by those with blinkers on. Get a fucking life, everybody has different likes and dislikes. The GS LC is not the end all and be all and a niche from one of the smallest mainstream motorcycle manufactures. Even the poster above went and bought a piece of shit that he occasionally rides.

It is strange now that the Gs now gets negative press , but in an odd way . They now say its brilliant but the new comers are not as good but the gs is better but too refined so is not as good , makes me a bit confussed to say the least.
A hard ridden Gs then is better as the refinement allows you to push harder , all day long , but not now apparently as the new ones are not as good but better ......head spinner . Still booking a test ride tho..
Oh and the seats are still not good along with the ridding position ...11 different seats to choose from , wonder if the dealers hold all 11 for you to try , i would guess not.

I get the overly refined complaint. For fear of sounding like a scratched record again, its just down to soul and character and somehow trying to build a bike that is modern, hi tech, cutting edge ..... but still a bit raw. Still .... a MOTORBIKE!!

I saw some journo YT review about a BM (cant remember which one .. GS? Cant remember ..) and he was just ever so negative about the clutch feel, saying it was too sterile. I get that! Completely! A little piece of a mechanical jigsaw that is so precise and smooth that it becomes boring and clinical, and yet its a major component that literally connects the rider to the engine through his finger tips. I completely understand his mild complaint.

So I am NOT here to join the 'my bikes better than yours' brigade  :D, Fuck .... enjoy yer bike what ever you've got, but what I like about my Tuono for example, is that it retains that rawness. The design hasn't changed much in five years or so and there seems (for me), a perfect balance of tech (amazing electronic package), but also good old fashioned 'man and his machine'. It engages you, its a bike oozing with character. (still has a cable clutch which you adjust with a screw!).

Honda have probably been guilty of this too - Fireblade an amazing bike, technically brilliant in its day, but completely soulless.

So I get why bikes like say, a superDukeR have a following. Its Raw, its fun, its engaging, it makes you laugh and above all ... its a MOTORBIKE!

Difficult balance to achieve I guess ....

The bit about this and all the other threads that I do not get is the reluctance on the part of some to accept that there is a better bike than a GS for some people !

I accept that for what it is the GS is probably the most capable bike in the world, it does everything well.

What it does not do is anything brilliantly !

Many bikes are compromised in doing one or 2 things brilliantly they fall below par on others like comfort as an example.

I will say that my Pikes peak is faster than a GS and handles better and is more comfortable - for me not everyone else

The claims by BL that it is the worlds fastest most nimble blah blah blah are plainly bollocks

One mans meat is another mans poison but to just keep saying the GS is the greatest bike in the world for everyone is just wrong and so fucking stupid

The thing I like about bikes is making them your own, getting the set up right, raise the rear, drop the front, tyres that work, gearing that's right, good positioning, good fueling, ace brakes and on and on.

could not agree more,

Declaring the 'Best Bike' is something the press and publishing industry has come up with. It's a bit like declaring the best shoe size.

But it puzzles me that some none-GS owners enters this post and express that they get offended by people declaring the GS bike the best bike.

First: , to them it is the best bike, and second: This is a GS/GSA forum, what do you expect? :aidan

Fine, disagree, but If you get offended that the GS owners express their preference to the GS in a GS forum, I humbly suggest that you'll find other forums where people definitely will prefer other bikes. :beerjug:

could not agree more,[/QUOTE]I also think it's immature and childish too, to be quite honest the make of motorcycle purchased by an owner is often true to form of this accompanying brand chart.
I personally own a BMW... both myself and my boyfriend agree the chart is reflective of type of machine = type of rider.

Giles you make me laugh because you are clueless when you say the Fireblade is amazing or brilliant because it is an utter piece of shit...Comes from the mantra that Honda builds the best bikes in the world.Without Marquez Honda was nowhere in MotoGP and the Fireblade is the first 1000 cc superbike that is slower in roll-on than even a gutless 600...On 400 rpm of it's powerband it is as strong as a S1000RR everywhere else it has up to 20hp/nm less power...So much for brilliant...
As for the 1290 SD it has good power (for a twin , it is still slow compared to a S1000RR) between 7 and 10K rpm but the power comes in so hard and ends up so abrupt that is is useless because the handling is so bad (neither quick steering nor stable) that is only wants to wheely...If this is your thing you will love it...LOL And as a naked bike everything above 100 mph becomes hard work...
The Tuono is another bike that gets good press but for a person with long legs it is too small. Also no bags,no centerstand no luggage rack it is just as impractical as any superbike. But a superbike is so much better on a track and also has better wind protection to actually go fast...so what was the point of the Tuono...;) Ah yes I forgot interesting sound and long wait for parts...:D
And the GS is not perfect yet...Needs more power on top and the ability to be stable at high speed to take advantage of the additional power without loosing its nimbleness in the twisties. As nimble as possible without loosing high speed stability. Also a 24 liter tank and 2 cases with the same volume would be great. As also a full on street XR version of the GS and a S version as sexy and versatile as the R1100S was.A boxer superbike not as extreme as the S1000RR that would be a dream and ultimate street-bike :thumby:
You can stone me now...:P
Cheers boys and girls !

You're right. I am clueless.

Anybody got a mobile number for John McGuiness ...??

I need to tell him that he'll never win another race on the IOM 'cos the idiots on a Blade and not a GS.

Yeah ... McGuiness another clueless dipshit ..... Sheesh, what are we like .....

:blast

I love riding motorcycles of all types BUT the latest 1250GS is the 'best' motorcycle out there - I'm on my 6th since 2005 :D

Boxerlust, you are in a minority in your wants for the GS. I don't think BMW want join the arms race that is going on, they will let the others take themselves down the same route as sports bikes have gone, further and further from the real world. I feel the GS you want would alienate more riders than it would attract, not many GS riders use all that is available to them already especially in Europe where speed restrictions etc make faster bikes even more irrelevent.
I think the sector is dividing into three parts; touring adventure, adventure adventure and sports adventure.
Maybe in a few years the main competitor to the GS will be the Triumph if can shed 20kg.

This statement is incorrect. It should read 'the latest 1250GS is the 'best' motorcycle out there for what I want in a motorcycle'.

Jonathan Rae, Michael van der Mark, Michael Dunlop and his dad, the late Nicky Hayden and Marko Simoncelli etc etc. Should've told you Giles when you bought that Italian piece of shit :D

Did Mr Honda get the memo?

The same make and model in 16 years? Dear God, have you got no imagination .... ??!

Does seem to be a GS thing.
People replace their steed of awesomeness just before the warranty expires, quite often tying in with the PCP renewal date.
I’d be bored stiff doing that and it seems that many don’t even test the opposition but blandly just switch to the latest GS.
I guess it depends how you view your bike and motorcycling in general.
For some it’s a heart thing and for others a head thing. And others have zero imagination ……

:jes you make me smile ....

I’m sure you chaps are all riding gods,
Not 60 year old overweight keyboard warriors with small willies,:blast:D:D
But where do you need all of this power:confused:
The world I live in ,has 50 limits everywhere, double white lines everywhere,
And when you do get the chance to fire the bike past the 4 cars following a HGV or tractor, there’s a camera van tucked away in a lay-by.:comfort
Lose your licence, your life,or your bank balance in the U.K. with a fast bike(should you choose to use it as intended)
Mini rant over,as you were:okay
