Last week my 09 GS got the wheel flange and fuel pump controller recalls done and now the fuel gauge either reads full all the time or absolutely empty and sometimes flicks between the two. By the way, whatever it reads is not related to the actual fuel level in the tank, :) Is this something that they have caused or if the symtoms of the fuel strip packing in? Whatever i'll be giving the dealer a call, just wanted to hear from the collective for your input.

Thanks Col:thumb2

Sounds like too much OF A COINCIDENCE to me, I'd give them a ring about it, (sorry caps lock stuck on, I wasn't shouting)

There's no such thing as coincidence so the dealer should sort it. But don't expect the replacement fuel strip to last. BMW seem to be incapable of handling replacement fuel strips without damaging them.

Having exactly the same issue, my bike went in for rear flange while in they insisted on doing the fuel pump, when I got it back the fuel gauge dropped off to empty after 180 miles from full (I Have a 2007 Adventure 33 litre tank).

Took it back and they recalibrated the sender, after a recent trip away the gauge drops normally till half full then drops away to empty (warning light) after 250 miles when I fill up, I'm putting in roughly 22 litres so there's 10 litres still in there.

Prior to the pump being disturbed I could get between 330 - 350 before the light comes on.

Contacted the local dealer yesterday bike goes back in next week.

One side of the tank is emptied by a venturi suction effect on the fuel return flow. If the full returns too slow the other side (probably the right but Im not sure) stays full so you run out with fuel in the tank. A simple cross over link tube under the tank would solve the problem but clearly that's too easy.

Dealer called today to reschedule my appointment as the bike requires 2 enhancements. Oh really, what would they be? the wheel flange and the fuel pump controller! she says. on explaining that the bike had the "enhancements" and since then the fuel gauge doesn't work that was the reason it was booked in. Ah well i still need it all day now. so after a bit of to ing and fro ing about when she could give me a loan car or bike, i ended up telling her to forget it and i'd fix it myself. I intend trying the, zap it with a heap of volts and see if that works. I may come back and delete this post if it doesn't work :)
