My 1150GS sounds as tho cam-chain about to break.
Have spoken to Steve Marshall in Liphook but now have problem of getting bike from Cosham (outside Portsmouth) to him.
Sounds near terminal so cannot risk riding it there, whilst his recovery truck isn't available.
Anyone with any ideas as to how I can transport it there reasonably, or can any kind soul on here offer assistance.
Please? Neal aka NS3230

Cheers Jez, That is an excellent idea, tho I do then have problems of not having a tow bar on my car, not knowing anyone who does and have never towed a trailer in any shape or form.
Should certainly be wary of towing my GS, my daily transport, behind a foreign, to me, car!
I shall certainly bear this in mind though so, Thanks again.

how much money have you got?

your going to need a one with a ramp of help to get it in so to speak, there's a bloke who does bike transport. He's around the £150ish mark I think, I've shifted a few for people.

Plenty of adverts on ebay to transport bikes.
Thought about using it if I bought a bike from far away

Thanks for quick responses, to answer a few;
1. Did consider a van as have seen RAC manhandle proper size bike into transit, suspect that being feek and weeble I'd probably drop the bike.
2. £150 is far too costly, if repair itself costs much more than this then I shall probably have to sell my 1979 R100 to finance it.
3. Have yet to check eBay but this appears OTT to move the bike 28 mile.
4. Am a member of the RAC but dont have home recovery, wouldn't really want to risk starting/riding bike away from my home. Would they not opt to recover bike to home address rather than a garage or can motorist chose the most appropriate destination?
Thanks for help, still trying to think of a contact with a tow-bar as this is currently my preferred option. Neal.

Thanks Uncle Dick,
Must admit I have been towed on a motorcycle in the past, was my old BSA 250, but this had no fairing so feasible to wrap tow-rope round handlebar.
Certainly would not risk tying rope between the two vehicles.
ps. Was much younger then and used to 'bounce' better, last time I fell off a bike properly I broke the collar-bone quite badly(two year ago!)
Having torn cartilage in respective knees over past 18 months I'm currently attempting to restrict hospital visits to earning a living!

RAC ?

If you have RAC cover add the recovery/home start option.
You'll probably have to wait 48 hrs before you use it.
It will be cheaper & easier than hiring a van or buying a trailer.
Plus you'll have the benefit of the cover for the rest of the year.

Read your RAC policy as you can purchase different levels of cover. You are looking to have the recovery/onward travel component. If you need to, push the bike a mile from home.

Who insures the bike? My policy with Carole Nash includes breakdown cover and they will take me and the bike on to my destination.

Even if you don't have home start or whatever the equivalent RAC version is, you can still call them up........pick a quiet time so they have resources available, and they'll sign you up to the home service plus charge a surcharge, which won't be as much as hiring a van.

Look at it this way...they have patrols out there standing by, so if they have one working to move you, it costs them nothing but diesel but they get you on a higher level membership plus the surcharge...that's why they do it.

At the end of the day, you've got fekk all to lose by trying it.......:beerjug:

Transit luton with a tail lift. Perfect size for the bike and the lift will take a GSA across ways.

Done it a number of times moving bikes around.

Just seen this.

I have a trailer and car, and am just up the road.

I have had a vrod on the back, so the GS should fit.
I'm happy to pop down and try.

I have some straps (not rachet) and rope, but would prefer you tie down your own bike.
PM me your number if you are interested.
I'll call you soon after I get up in the morning.

If it's not too late, my RT broke down in Scotland. I hired a van for 24 hours for a one way trip down to Dorset. Cost about £130. Would have been less if returned to base. I used Enterprise car/van rental.

As soon as I picked up the van I drove to the local B&Q, bought a few bits of timber, some nails, a hammer and a saw for perhaps another £30. In the car park I knocked up a sturdy ramp and used it to get the bike in.

Van hire in places is really cheap as is bashing some nails into some wood to make an impromptu ramp.

Anyway, I hope it get's fixed.

RAC home start will only take you 10 miles anyway

I tried to use it to get my bike to Pidcocks which is 12 miles away and they wanted to charge me £150 for the extra 2 miles.

fortunately for me Pidcocks picked it up from me for free

Just to round this off.....

I picked Neal's bike up on Saturday, with my trailer, and got it up to Steve Marshall's

The issue was not quite as bad as first thought, but repairs/maintenance was required.

Neal and bike are happily re-united yesterday :bounce1

Just wanted to Thank you ALL for the advice , tips and recommendations which were most helpful for now and possible future use.
Should also like to say a Very Big Thanks to Sean (1130cc), who forgave his other plans for Sat morn and transported my bike and myself. He really is a top guy, as well as being a pretty serious biker, the world would be a better place if there were more like him!
Also rather impressed by Steve Marshall at Liphook Motor Services, who I shall definately be visiting for future work, servicing etc. He and Andy are definately well worth meeting.
Neal. ps. The bike is now running better than it has for some time, Cheers!
