Ok my wonderful wife may have found a way to finance it so, a question you have no doubt been asked before and one which will be argued over for sometime to come.

Should I buy a GS or GS Adventure. Im kinda leaning towards the GSA but what are the differences pro`s & cons for either.

A lot of questions I know and I have just noticed bandits thread which will answer some of my questions. My apologies in advance.

Only the first 1000 miles can confirm whether you made the right decison ..... or not!

:-)

There's enough reading here and on the www.adventureriders.com site to fill next weekend for you.

I understand that 1st gear & 6th gear are different on the GSA to the standard GS. Can anybody tell me in what way they are different. Is the bike buzzier in 6th on the motorway for instance or still as relaxed.

One last point
I will never take the bike offroad but I still love the look of the adventure over the standard GS. My question is do you think the adventure is too much machine for everyday use and what spec should I look for or avoid when buying one used.

Your help would be massively appreciated as I am gonna take this weekend to really think about what I want and need.

Probably best to try them both and see if you think the GSA is worth the extra. Alternatively, buy the GSA and if you find it's too tall / too much, I could help out by swapping my standard GS with you :)

I believe the GSA (and the GS?) has the option of a "regular" 6th gear instead of the overdrive. I personally think the overdrive is better suited to the bike (provided you treat it as such). But a lot of people prefer a normal 6th gear. Ditto I like the higher 1st gear, it's actually usable rather than something to change up from as soon as you've pulled away. But then I don't ride off-road... Hope that helps!

Hi,
I run a GSA. Use it every day rain or shine. Toured Europe on it, commuted on it, run it loaded to the max. Motorway, A roads, tracks and trails it copes with it all without a murmur.

At the risk of upsetting people (god forbid) I think it looks just a bit more purposeful then the GS. It certainly has a presence on the road and it dose exactly what it said on the tin, pay for it, roll it out the shop, load it up , start it and ride round the world, no problem. :bow

It is defiantly the big trail bike, heavy to pick up (hopefully not to often) but an absolute blast to ride.

Trust me it is an impressive bike. I was in the Spanish mountains last year with a mate who is very good off road and watching him doing standing power slides round corners on loose track was more than enough to con firm I had made the right purchase (all that’s needed now is the ability and confidence to do that).

The only major niggles I have with it is the headlight is crap. See the numerous threads on this site. But some fog have sorted that out. The seat can be a bit tough on 500 plus day until it or your ass are broken in.

Try one you wont regret it.
