I'm afraid we can't decide this for you. What do you want from a bike? Does a 12GS fulfill these requirements? If not, would a 12GSA?

Try a search, there's lot's of commentary on this and related topics.

It's quite simple

Go try both bikes back to back and compare it to what you ride (if you do at the moment) Make sure that you go for a LONG ride, at least 2 hours. Take a weekday off work, make sure you are sure as it is an expensive mistake.

Before you go out on either, make a list of what you want from the bike and then compare to what you found when riding them.

Good luck, Nick

I'm having a test ride on the ADV tomorrow so i'll
let you know ;)
Though height and weight will be pretty important :)

I took one out today too. Unfortunately I found the height a bit intimidating with my 29" inside leg so I made the mistake of taking the preoad right down to make things lower. This had the effect of making things feel all wallowy. Once I set it back to standard all was well but it mean't I had to plan every dab and I was still nervous. Particularly pointing downhill at lights with the front brake on, serious tippy toeing. Is there an option to make 860mm possible?

It was also terrifically windy which mean't I didn't feel up to pushing either it or myself. I didn't quite manage to get used to the gearing difference from my 1150 regular, first seemed too high and second too low and there was what felt like a bit of a flat spot around 5K (hark at me going all MCN). When I tried the standard 12 everything felt just right (it fact it was a revelation) so maybe I expected too much. I couldn't help thinking it was nowhere near as fast as the standard 12 (felt comparable lto my 1150 actually - which is remus'd, chipped etc). Very quick to turn in mind.

Its got terrific presence though, much more than the regular bike and if I can get it a bit lower I may still be swayed. :confused:

Any dealer worth his salt would have a 1200 low seat available :confused:

Yep I agree, but it wasn't suggested and when I asked if a low seat would be forthcoming he said he didn't know that one was due to made (clearly lacking knowledge and not thinking on his feet) - the salesman has not been in the job long. If I hadn't been in a rush to get off I'd have illuminated him with knowledge gained from the brethren.
I shall ask for a low seat for the next test.
