I have just ordered a new GSA together with the Premium package. The current BMW deal also includes ‘free’ panniers. However, I prefer the Varios to the large aluminium dustbins that are fitted to the GSA.

I was therefore wondering if anyone who has just bought/ordered a standard GS would like to do a swap, (plus a little cash my way for the upgrade) to obtain a nice new set of ally panniers.

I believe that we would need to swap both mounting brackets and rear racks.

Interesting. I'm always amazed that my Varios are still attached when I arrive to my destination. I really think that they need to attach to one more point on the frame to be secure. They actually sag if you load them too heavy (and I'm not talking about carrying granite). The top box works great off road, but I wouldn't use the side cases on anything other than gravel.

Enjoy your new ride!

Chris

They are designed for 10kg. maximum and I have often tested them with 10 litres of wine, but not off road of course!!! They will fix rigidly if the position of the mushroom bolt is carefully adjusted and then LOCKED firmly.

Drill a 2mm hole in the latch and pin it closed this stops the passinger knocking the catch open.
I too prefer the varios but not the plastic carrier, this is the mod i did when i had the 06 GSA.
I will be doing the same to my 10 GSA when it arrives.
This has passed the 12 bottles of wine test.

i am not responsible

"This has passed the 12 bottles of wine test." Be careful - because 12 bottles of wine will weigh more than 10 kg. When I said 10 litres that was in a 'bidon" - a plastic container.
