I have a full Staintune system including a G/S style collector on my 1000 cc R80 G/S.
The conventional ,err, wisdom is that the G/S collector doesnt work with a 1000 cc motor, but mine works perfectly.
However, I have opened up the air box a bit, and the Staintune muffler probably flows a bit better than stock, so those that fit them to an otherwise stock bike may be disappointed, but you know about the air boxes already.

Can you expand a bit on opening out the airbox? Taking the snorkels off? Foam filter?
Surely all that doesnt really matter - you could just adjust jetting to suit the new exhaust?
The question as to whether you can fit the exhaust & collector box seems to be yes. I assume the header sizes are the same?

Yes, a foam Unifilter and two large snorkels.
Next step would have been removing the snorkels , but it is going OK so it has stayed that way.
Those that have run their airhead on a dyno, and actually know what they are talking about, will tell you that the flat air filter doesn't really flow enough for a free flowing motor at high revs, but the old G/S doesnt get up there that often there days.
