GS-pd. side stand problem..

Re-building my GS PD. Have found slight problem with the side stand, when the stand returns to the off stand position it touchs the exhaust"not Good "

posted photos below. apart from the springs can any tell me if there is some thing missing which the stand should stop on before it hits the exhaust..

I take it, it did not do it before you stripped it...

One or two washers between the frame and the crashbar should fix it. Mine has 2 and that keeps the crashbar in the correct alignment - side stand bits have been ground off.

Tried that didn't work.. any idea why the leg of the side stand as a threaded hole in the top??? see pic's

On the inside of the sidestand leg should be a piece of pipe welded to it which has a 20mm rubber bung in it which bumps on to to 12mm nut in yer picture stopping any metal to metal knocking

My problem John, is the s/stand dosen't have any kind of stopper on it, it just keeps on hitting the exhaust, have i missed some thing out when re-building the bike. May be some one would be so kind to post me a good photo of the stand or better still take a look at there bike to see if i have missed sumitt...

+1 on the grease nipple at the pivot point. Make sure you fit and use it.
Where exactly is the stand touching the exhaust? If it's the foot (which looks different to mine but may be right for your model ) then it might benefit from some repositioning of the exhaust.
Is there any play in the stand pivot? Can you pull the stand up over where it catches the exhaust? It might be the case where if you fit the grease nipple and grease it up it will take the play out and your stand will retract properly.

If it was OK before then you should be able get it there again.
Have you tried a hide mallet? Loosen all the exhaust clamp nuts and just see if it can be persuaded to shove over a bit.
Otherwise it might be better to grind a bit off the foot so it clears. You may find some ground clearance issues if it won't retract fully.

Are the engine spacers in the right way round? Mine ere different thickness on each side.
