Hi all,

I'm having a minor problem with the GS.

Sometimes when I leave it to idle in neutral it suddenly loses all revs and the engine nearly cuts out, so I'm left having to put the choke (well, you know what it is) on sometimes to keep the revs up.

On a couple of occasions the engine has cut out resetting all the clocks as well.

Any ideas? I'm going to change the battery but I'm not sure that this would have caused the surging problem (although I'm more than happy to be corrected!).

Cheers, L

could be this, although that wouldn't explain the surging :

easy check is turn the bars fully in both directions while running and to wiggle around the lower ignition loom wires - if it cuts out, chances are you need to replace or solder up the wiring

surging may be a different problem - valves / throttle bodies / TPS ? - others more knowledgeable will be along in a mo'

Yip, check the wiring for the ignition loom. Also I have had problems with damaged or corroded ignition barrels. They can corrode at the bottom of the barrel where the contacts are made (rebuildable). If it takes out your clock (?) then it's unlikely the other favourites, kill switch or side stand.

I'm not sure if the loom issue takes the clock out but also for total loss it may be a loose battery terminal?? All 5 min checks.

Yeah, will do.

I did over 100 miles on it today around monmouthshire (some beautiful roads down there BTW) and it nearly cut out twice - both whilst in neutral at junctions.

I did put the bike on full lock both ways and this had no real impact on it - i.e. it lost power once, but then after 10 turns at full lock either side it never did it again.

Will replace the battery then update - watch this space!

Wiring probs do not show all the time and 1/10 may be your average. Undo some cable ties and manually "wiggle" wires by hand:eek
