GS Radio fit

I'm still dithering about buying an iPod, but feel that what I'd actually prefer (both in this country & when touring abroad) is a radio. I hardly listen to my CD player in the car, the radio's always on, so on long journeys, I'dlike to be able to do the same on the GS. On my RTW, it would also be useful to get news whilst on the road.

Has anyone managed to successfully fit a proper, multi-band RDS radio to their GS? I know very little about this subject, so I'd appreciate any advice on:

Type of radio I need (world wide coverage, ie BBC World Service, as well as FM & MW for this country)

Where I could mount it on the bike

How I could protect it from the elements

The critical aspect, from my point of view, is for this to be effective & reliable. Within reason, it's not cost driven. I'd like it to run through Autocom which would also have a GPS fed through it.

J&M do some nice bike specific audio stuff. No actual radios although if you look in the Universal section you will see a handlebar mounted waterproof walkman pouch. You could use this to store one of those nice portable radio sets that cover every frequency.

I saw some people who have the Sony SRF-M48RDS mounted on their GS. It's very small, with a nice display, but not waterproof. They used some lined 12 mm. pipe clamps and the clip that's delivered with the radio to mount it. With bad weather they put it in the tankbag.

I ordered one but will only get it next week. Have to pay about 86,- EUR for it.

Not a bad little radio, but the AF (Alternative Frequency) function only works when you press the AF button.

I have always had it since the late seventies and as far as I am concderned it is the only way to travel. So much so, mates that I ride with acn tell if I have something remotely stiring ( in the trouswer dept) as

I have always had music on two wheels since the late seventies and as far as I am concerned, it is the only way to travel.

So much so, mates that I ride with can tell if I have something remotely stiring as I seem to perform according to type of vibes in the ears pieces.

I just enjoy having my fav. vibes with the Blueflame end-can as the base line, just like the Drones on a bag pipe !

Peter, where did you order it from, I tried a similar sony radio but without the RDS-EON function. The SRF-M48RDS is not listed on the UK Sony site and presumably not available here.

I bought it in a specialised Sony store (they only sell Sony). It's no longer in their catalogue, but still have them available. They didn't have it in the store, but had to order it. I think I can pick it up tomorrow. I couldn't find it in any other store, even those who have a lot of Sony stuff.
