My March 09 GS Adventure nicked from W4 last night. Can't fekkin believe it. Probably in bits and in Bulgaria by now. Steering lock on. Alarm on. Didn't hear a fekkin thing. Neighbours not happy as they fekked the remote electric gates to the little development I live in. Sure it was a targeted theft. C-nuts. :blast:eek:

Anyone got any experience on how good BMW Insurance Theft processing is?

What are they going to offer me for a 2yr old fully loaded GSA with 20K miles?

Ta.

I feel your pain, My last bike a 2009 1200GSA was knicked from my house whilst I was at work - little feckers drove a truck through my garden wall to get it - bring back the death penalty!!!

Any way I was insured through BMW - the underwriters are NIG insurance, they get you to send the log book, spare keys any relevany ocuments, the certifiate of insurance and a recent photo to prove the condition (if you have it). Then you have to have a telephone interview to run through the circumstances - what I had been doing when it was nicked etc and what precautions I had taken - read your insurance policy docs to swat up on what you told them before hand to make sue you dont drop a clanger. After the interview they tried to give trade in price at a dealer but I got my dealer to write a letter, which I sent back with the claim pack stating that you couldn't buy a direct replacement for the price they quoted so they matched what the dealer said they would be selling them for. The loss adjuster phoned up and was decent and after that it was painless.

They are actually pretty good with it all really.

I had my car nicked shortly after that (bad neighbourhood) and it was insured through Axa and they are arseholes.

Hope this helps and you get it all sorted quickly and to your benefit. (dont forget to claim for locks and the damaged gate)

WC, Genuinely sorry to hear you've had your bike nicked. Hope your insurance works out for you. Some people really do need locking up for years .... :rob

Really feel for you guys, that's one of my worst nightmares, having either my car or bike stolen
It's also an eye opener for me as I didn't realise GS's are targeted bikes :mad:

Thx chaps for the comments so far. I see Vines of Guildford have a comparable GSA - May '09 / 18K miles for £10,250. If I can get that from the insurer then I'll be happy. Printed out ready for the fight with the loss adjuster...on the look out for more comparables now.

Sorry to here of your shit luck . Have you got any picture of it ?? the reason i say that is when i had my bike nicked they tryed to bring the price down saying i couldnt prove the condition it was in or the spec i had on it until i shown them proof :thumb2

Aye - got pix. But they don't prove anything as could have been taken from anytime between bike being new and nicked. But if they want them, they shall have them. With regard to spec - well I have the invoices. So no worries there.

Sorry to hear about your loss windychuffer i hope all turns out in your favour, mind you thats never the case is it after you claim even with protected no claims they still up your premium its a shitta, seems theres alot of gs bikes being twoked at the mo ...

This sleeps with mine and he will rip your b0llox off.

Good luck with your claim matey .... hope all goes well!

Just some info for you and the other riders here,........... I work as a Loss Adjuster in SA and have learnt my lesson as to when and how Insurers pay out!

ALWAYS keep your paperwork, make sure the policy includes "accessories" - in other words you don't normally have to list them - just ensure you have their value added to the value of the bike/car etc. The term "accessories" is what you need as a general cover of the extra goodies.

Invoices, installation manuals etc are important and lots of photographs of everything and constant pics of your bike closeup. (my wife sometimes thinks I'm mad walking around the house taking pics of hifi, tv etc.)
The reason for the pics is the "date signature" of the image. If they give you shite, hand them the pics on a CD. Each image will have a date & time stamp on it as to when and with which camera it was taken.

That will sort them out!

Good advice, thanks. It's a shame they can't just take your word, but then there's so many con artists out there that spoil it for us good honest folk

In 2006 my 5 week old K1200S was written off in an accident. I found BMW/NIG insurance very good at resolving the claim and paying out. The loss adjuster telephoned me at home two or three weeks after the accident and we agreed a settlement fee more or less there and then. A cheque arrived shortly after.

Being a new bike the terms of the insurance were such that they could have provided a new replacement bike. Unfortunately it was going to be some time before I could ride again so I went for the cash option which was above market price but three or four hundred below new price.

When I had a bike nicked the loss adjuster rang me at work and we both logged on to bike trader as a guide for a settlement figure.

If you want a reasonable payout it might be worth logging on to the main bike sales sites before your expecting a call just to do some homework> Have a good read of the ads so your armed with the argument as to why the one cheap bike is priced how it is so as not to drag your claim value down.

"Yes that bike is cheap but it's had 5 owners" etc

sorry to hear of the loss of your bike

Bike Thieving SCUM

I would tie them by the scrotum to the hitch on my car, and drive them bare-arsed down the motorway (over the cats eyes and everything)

Hope it all works out for you

Awww c'mon ..... the cats eyes bit is just taking it a bit too far .... :mmmm

How long before they declare it lost?

They never will until it is found. Forget the police just get the crime number out of them and make a nuisance of yourself with the insurers so they ge fed up of you and sort it out - mine was all done within a few weeks.

I meant the insurer, not the rozzers (who are fekkin useless). How long before the insurer declares it "lost" and pay out?
