GS Stolen...sorting out the shite with BMW insurance

Sorry to hear about that Mike. I hope you get it sorted and back on the road again.

Thx ! Drooling over new bikes now, but you know what, I just want my "old" bike back... My mind is like a fekkin swinging pendulum - KTM 990 Adventure R vs BMW GSA. Oh - there it goes again. Can do without the aggro right now for sure.

Right.

Round 1 of the negotiations with the BMW Insurance (really NIG) loss adjuster on Tues AM. Go sharpen yer pencil.

Round 2 Tues PM. Bit more sharpening needed.

Round 3 Thurs PM. Price agreed.

Not too painful. Bit lower than I was expecting, but then we all know that. Quite a pleasant experience all in all and a very pleasant young man dealing with it too boot.

Q: Would I insure again with BMW Insurance?
A: So far, yes, deffo. Subject to the formal offer and actual payout !

Voicemail from BMW Insurance (NIG) this afternoon...seems they are about ready to raise a cheque. Will call in the morning. Hoping to place an order tomorrow...

):drool

I noticed that the underwriter on BMW insurance has changed from NIG to Allianz as of 1st Jan 2011. Dunno if thats old news around here, but it sure is new to me.

Will be interesting to see how my multi bike policy (incepted in Dec 2010) will cope with replacing stolen new GSA with new one and G650XC on it too.

I believe NIG are getting out of motorcycle insurance.

Spoke with BMW insurance. NIG (owned by RBS) are getting out of personal lines and focussing on commercial lines. All part of the great RBS shake up no doubt.

All new BMW policies since 1/1/11 will be underwritten by Allianz.

BMW Policies that existed prior to 31/12/10 will renew with NIG. As NIG are getting out of personal lines, seems odd that they are letting existing policies renew...you'd think they would let them lapse. Odd.

Sorted. Insurance coughed up. Took 3 weeks from reporting theft to closing the claim. Very impressed with BMW Insurance / NIG.

New '11 plate GSA ordered with Vines of Guildford.

I just couldn't bring myself to turn Orange....

Not sure if that is correct, certainly not in my case; have been with BMW/NIG since 2006, my renewal at the beginning of the month was with Allianz :nenau

+1, l was insured with BMW/NIG last year - my renewal quote for this year was BM/Allianz with premium increase of approx £100 and excess increase from £300 to £600

Went to Carol Nash for 100 quid less (same as last year) & £200 excess
Hope l dont need to claim!, but if do they dont mess about.

Enjoy the new bike Windy:thumb2

Well I did think it was weird that NIG would continue to renew legacy policies whilst they would decline new business.

Makes much more sense that renewals would be issued by BMW (as broker) with Allianz as the underwriter, as two of you have said.

Ouch, mine went up by £10 on last year, to £148, and the excess went up £50 to £300. It's all to do with postcodes I'm afraid (and, of course, previous history).

I was going to go with IAM Surety, who could beat the above by £15, but the underwriter they use would only give an excess of £250 on bikes below the value of £12,000. Because mine is a new GSA, advertised show room prices for similar age/mileage/etc., indicated the value to replace it in a total loss would be above £12,000 so the excess was going to be £600. Knowing how much damage can be done in a low speed drop I decided to pay the extra premium for the BMW policy and get the lower excess. Granted, in a few months the value will be well below the threshold, but I was concerned that if I didn't value correctly at the time of taking out the insurance they may reduce the payout in the event of a claim, so I erred on the side of caution.
