Stupidly expensive 36K service......
So robeekay67, who did this 'stupidly expensive service' then?
If it was a genuine dealer and they did not notice that the throttle cable was in need of replacement, you should go back and complain.
If your 'competent' local mechanic only fitted the cable what was the bike like before he did the replacement?
If your local 'competent' mechanic needs help with this type of engine then I'm afraid your using the wrong person, no offense but come on these things are not rocket science.
Here are some tips:
1 Both throttle bodies need to be balanced (bloody good vacuum gauges, Twinmax or Carbtune) and some one that knows what they are about. See 2 below.
2 The balancing act means both throttle plates and then idle by-pass screws are adjusted to give the smoothest engine response and performance.
3 Valve clearances can affect the engine if too tight or loosely set.
There is much more that could be added but at the risk of souding unhelpful (which is NOT intended) there are countless references to this process on this site, investigate and enjoy.
Additionally your bike should not have been released to you in such a poor state of engine performance, it must not have been road tested after the work was done...an important fact.
