GS v S1000 Sports Tourer, which would you choose and why?

Here are some leaked pics of the soon to be released S1000R engine Sports Tourer which is targeted at the Multistrada and it's ilk.

Superb engine, fuelling and gearbox (as per S1000R) with brilliant quick shifter . Much more power and go than the GS and, likely, more nimble with lower weight.

No shaft drive with a chain drive and possibly a lower price......the naked S model is £11500 including Q/S.

For 90% of GS owners who stay on road this is the faster, more agile alternative but no shaft drive. Must be the better choice.

What's not to like?

I'm not a fan of I4 engines, but I'm looking forward to testing this bike when it arrives as I loved the power of my K1200S :D

However, as my job requires a driving licence and I lack self-restraint at times, I'll probably stick with a GS LC for the foreseeable future as it ticks all the boxes for my biking needs
 
Might hold off changing my lc until I can try one I'm assuming it will be at the nec to have a look at.
 
This is going to be a massive seller for bmw.... Looks good, loads of poke, cheaper than a gs.
 
For touring, the shaft drive is more appealing for me, and the telelever is nicer than conventional forks, IMO. The GS has more than enough power for 99% of the time, but I'm sure this new bike will be a cracker.:thumb

I'm looking forward to seeing it, as I've always had a soft spot for the Multistrada, but never been prepared to go through with buying one for some reason.
 
At least the engine should be sorted as it's been out for a while, might be better for me as I don't go off road and there's still a hooligan in me!
 
I've just been away with my mate on his s1000r, the engine and drive from low down is awesome, so the f will be a cracker.

I'm tempted to one of these as a replacement for my lemon.

Get an S1000R, Dave. Chuck some bar risers on it, and jobs a goodun.:thumb Then wait for the F to be out for 6 months while they iron the bugs out.:D
 
If it's lower and lighter, it may be worth a look, I was wondering what to replace the GS with........

+1 same for me regarding the Multistrada. The GS will probably win the head vote although might not win the heart vote!

I think you have hit the issue of choice on the head......

....... I did 15,000 ballistic miles on a Multistrada which was great fun but am back on a GS WC and done 15,000 miles which have been fun as well. Not ballistic but pretty fast and with much better aero for buffet free progress. The Ducati engine has great character whereas the S1000R engine is competent, powerful and brilliantly fuelled but just wonder if it will be bland with lots of miles.

Oh, my other gripe with the Multi was it's poor tank range but it goaded you into wringing it's neck........even the GS can get in the mid 30's if thrashed.
 
Meh. I've ridden the s1000. It does have a ripping motor, but it still feels like any other inline4 coming out of a corner, and its a bit buzzy. I'll stick with twins and triples for street riding, thanks.
 
four cylinders , more power , chain , conventional forks.

nothing new when compared to 90% of the market out there. Getting a four cylinder out there to take on the multistrada , caponord and KTM ? Strange decision.

Boxer twin might be at the limit of power output? Also shaft drive (bevel box ESP) might be at limit of torque pulses?
