GS v S1000 Sports Tourer, which would you choose and why?

Primitive, maybe, but better is so many ways.
I think it looks very promising. I love my wc GS, but still miss proper sports bike performance. The holy grail (for me) would be a soft bike, good vision, great on back roads, but still delivers 150+ bhp. (And then added to all that you can stick some panniers on, the missus and bugger off to the Pyrenees). This looks like it could deliver all of that ....

What you need Giles, is the 1600 GT. Everything on your list, without all the bolted-on-afterwards tat.
There again, coming back from the Alps, I met a bloke and his girlfriend who had been touring in Italy together on his 1199 Panigale.... So anything is possible.

Get out of it ..!! Yer never going to hussle a 1600 GT down a back road like you are a fandangled hint of super moto - GS / multistrada. That's where my heart is. (Pillions are not the priority!)

A bloke did The VINCE on a Multistrada this year and last year. This year he had TKC80s on - looked sic considering the rear is 180 wide. He ripped.

I'm with Nutty and Ding Dong - though starting from a different position.
I have a 2012 MTS 1200S Touring. It's done 20,000 miles and has been largely trouble free. I've previously had a GS and a Stelvio. My preference between the three is the MTS, mainly because of its agility.
I'm not really tempted by the WC but will definitely be giving the S1000 a go. That new K1300s paint job looks cool though...

I would miss the shaft drive.
It's been one of the biggest benefits of the R and K BMWs I have owned.
Every time I have had another bike with a chain, I've missed the shaft.
Mind you, a bike with the gs riding position and s1000 engine would be quite something...

Any idea of a release date for this new BMW RR Panzer-GS ?
Most likely launched at Cologne in October and on sale in the Spring!

GS every time. Taller to see over slow cars and taller to see over hedges on slow roads. Top speed and even stonking acceleration is irrelevant because most UK roads just dont have the space even with a falling off number plate.
at least the rear pegs look low enough! Just needs a big enough tank to make it worth while??

It'll still be a tall bike, stonking acceleration is a big part of the fun on a bike and there's loads of empty roads in the UK once north of the M62 or west of the M6 into Wales. The acceleration also makes overtakes on more crowded roads easier.
What I'm not so keen on are IL4 engines, but I'll still give it a go
