GS v Triumph Adventure v Honda Crosstourer in Ride mag

Got my Ride mag about 2 days ago and looks like the journalists has come to their senses. Haven't read the whole test yet but the pillion review is interesting. Looks like the GS still cuts it but the competition is strong from Triumph. Always found Ride to be informative but every test has to be taken with a pinch of salt. Different strokes for different folks. I still like my GSA.

I disagree. But whatever bike they recommend, brand new. Immediately. You want to ride the best, surely. Every couple of weeks.

Will try and find a copy in Toulouse next week but ...'Triumph Adventure'? What's that? I assume you mean the Triumph Tiger Explorer. And 'pillion review' - that sounds a bit blinkered, to say the least?

I have had my GSA from new for 3 years now. I like the bike as a package but for me the motor is akin to what is fitted to a dumper truck.

Hence, I have been waiting for the new Triumph Explorer to be launched for a year or 2 now (I had 2 Triumph 955i Tigers before the GSA).

Thinking it was to be my next bike I have had 2 long test rides on it. I was a bit dissappointed. The motor is fantastic and no vibrations, but......... the clutch is heavy, to much buffetting, OEM panniers much smaller than the GSA's and the general cockpit space is also much smaller than a GSA. I just couldn't commit myself. I have also had a test ride on a Honda Crosstourer but no way.

And the conclusion...... Just done a deal to replace my GSA with another GSA, even the same colour. What I really like about the deal is how little depreciation I have incurred on the GSA.

Unfortunately I'm not likely to be in that position.

But so much depends on the build of the passenger that any opinion would be completely subjective - worth a passing mention, perhaps, but otherwise irrelevant to a prospective buyer who, if they have any sense, will take their missus along for the test ride anyway.

Took my Mrs with me for the test ride of my next aquisition, she still aint getting on it, I've told her straight it's got one seat, and it's mine. Don't know why they fit pillion seats, I like to concentrate when I'm out on my bike, why would you want the misses on the back twittering away all day, I ride mine to get away from that:thum b2

I spent last weekend with the journos from MCN and Bike at the BMF show covering the GS Trophy.

No disrespect to these journos but the are both relatively young lads and have only a limited view of bikes. I would never worry about what any journals says about any bike as it is highly subjective.

A reasonable test in Ride mag but I would have thought the Super Tenere was more in competition to GS and Explorer than the Crossrunner?

Guitar analogy - If one wants a Fender Stratocaster then the discerning customer will buy the original not a copy, no matter, at first glance, how shiny it looks or how well it plays - it will never be the real thing. This is why the GS remains the best

As far a pillion comfort is concerned, I have discovered a simple solution for this summer, I am riding the bike down through France and my girlfriend is flying down to Lyon, where I will pick her up - she won't get a sore arse and very importantly she can be a proper girly and take loads more clothes with her Best of both worlds we get to ride together in sun during the day and she can look hot in the evenings
