GS vs GSA riding position

Just out of curiosity are the fundamentals of the GS and GSA the same, ie the frame etc, and therefore if you had the same seats on would the riding position be identical? i.e. would the peg to seat height be the same, peg position, handlebar position etc. be the same, and the only difference being the height from the ground due to the longer travel of the GSA?

Having just swapped my GSA for a standard GS and swapped over my custom built seat - I can confirm there is no diffrence in the riding position

I believe that the longer suspension on the GSA makes a different steering angle (and overall length) compared to the GS. This in turn alters the handling.

I'm not sure about steering angle but can imagine it effect length ever so slightly. Neither will affect riding position in relation to the bike though

The resulting higher CofG will make a difference too

Had the 1200gsa for nearly 4 years and so was ready to upgrade to a new bike i.e. the new twin cam. Have had two 1200GSA which I really liked but fancied going for the lighter weight/sportier standard GS this time round

At 6'3" the height of neither is an issue for me and having swapped over my extra tall custom seat the riding position is identical.

Big difference is how nimble/chuckable the standard GS is.

Think of it as the GS being a bit closer to a Superduke and the GSA being a bit closer to a Goldwing

My decision this time round was less is more

Of course its not the same.
On the GSA, one would be standing - especially while filtering.

Who cares - everyone on this forum thinks their current bike is the best

There are so many posts about how the 1100's/1150's/1200's/GSA's/GS's are best but at the end of the day you choose the bike that is right for you

I do, however, have to smile at some of the vertically challenged tossers who still insist on buying a GSA

Now clearly the best GS ever built is the R1200GS Triple Black cos that what I currently have in the garage

I was on the brink of selling my GS because of lower back pain and invested in some Jaws risers for about £20. Fitting these and playing with the rotation angle of the bars in the risers has made a world of difference by eliminating a slight forward stretch. At 5'10'' bike fits me like a glove now and is all day comfortable perch. £20 to make a £12K purchase liveable

Rode the GS and GSA back to back and reckon they are pretty much the same, did not even find the GSA much bigger when sat on it, paddling around, but once moving it was definately a slower handling machine, rides bumps better but feels more tourer than sports.
