Hi guys here a quick one

I'm thinking of fitting some led additional driving lamps, I've found some lamps at a fraction of the cost of bmw ones, the problem is when contacting the dealer about a wiring loom I've been told I have to buy both the loom plus the additional switch. At £118 for them both sounds abit steep. I'm not really bothered about the switch would be quite happy using the lights just on main beam.
I probably could wire them in with terminals relay fuse etc, but in a perfect world a plug a play lead would be perfect. 😤😤😤

Hi, confusing little lot here..
The lamps you have found, you need to find out if they are designed to come on with main beam or dip, (I'm assuming the switch & wiring will not be main beam only)
If they are main beam spot lamps they will need to be off on dipped headlamp.
The genuine BMW ones are (I believe) led low current draw & possibly if you connect standard halogen lights to the bike wiring loom the can bus may detect excess current draw & shut down the lights. (anyone tried this.?)

I think you need to have a little think about what you are looking for, either extra daytime running lights, fog style lighting or main beam long range illumination.

Hope that helps somewhat.

Just out of interest..
I had a kit from Touratech on a f800gs that used 1 Hella micro de dip beam & 1 micro de xenon that were a fantastic combination, I'm going to purchase another of these for my new GSW & use the new plastic BMW mounting bracket & wire up using relays as required.
I think Les Wassel also supplies them a tad cheaper than touratech.

I fitted some lamps to my old tc a couple of years ago albeit they weren't led, I bought a harness from eBay for about £25 I think , it came with relay etc. They took a feed from the battery and the switch feed was wired into the speedo light live .... My pal who is a auto electrician did it for me ... These could be then switched on or off independently. Also because the speedo light stays on for a a little while it was great in the garage at night !
