HI Guys,

Yes it's the newbie here, New to the forum and new to beemers. Bought an 06 GS 1200 6 weeks ago and love it to bits but I have been led to believe that they can be a bit of a problem with build quility and the like. Surely not BMW???? Having owned various bikes through the years other then BMW I hope i will not be dissapointed. Any tips for a new beemer boy?

CHeers,

Alex

If you don't ride it will never go wrong!!!!

There is alot of banter on this site regarding the poor build quality and the various por and cons of each model.

Bm's are ridden more than most bikes and will therefore have problems from time to time. There are good ones and bad ones. Generally though I think the overall quality is better than most. Corrosion of the fork brace and lower fork legs has been an issue since the 1150, as is corrosion on the front of the engine. On the 1200, the top of the fuel pump collects water (where the pipes come out) and this corrodes the electrical plug on it.
Other issues range from broken plastic bits to engine faliures. Don't let it bother you, these are few and far between, and whilst some have had nightmares, I would guess that most are very happy.
I have a 52,000 mile 1150 and it gets the odd problem but is generally very very good.

Enjoy it and fix it when it goes wrong.:thumb2 :thumb2

put some acf50 on it, that should stop most of the corrosion issues. do a search and it will find the threads for you
