Im uggtek on thumpertalk.pm me there
Anyone had the 5mm set screw (the bottom ones that hold the headlight plastic square rim /frame on)
seize in the head light surround on the 1100gs then wen ye come to undo it , the bugger just spins round:blast

do i have to completely strip the head light surround n fairing to get to the captive thread holding the screw or is there another way (probably not ) here's hoping i can get it out :augie

way it looks is drill out the head of the screw so i can get the head light surround off n see where i can go from then , drill from behind???

note to self (use copper slip next time):blast

ta for any info:thumb

NOOooooooooooooooooooooo

Copaslip and Road Salt = Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhh

JUst grease it with a good quality Grease (millers has grapite in its EP2 grease) OR the BMW stuff Optimoly the silver greasey stuff

I've mate who fixes outboards professionally fer a living and he took me on a tour in his aladdins cave of outboard failures and in somecases where they've actually been scrapped due to electrolysis, betweeen the stainless the alloy and the copaslip!!

Yeh Ugg at the reflector bit at the the back I think they are brass inserts into the plastic

They start spinning when you're undoing them and they get tight!

Solution ????

If ya want to save it I'd say carefully clear your way tha ya can see the feckers and use a solder gun to try and melt the plastic around them again

A drill won't work cos the bolt can spin and will just do so when it bloody well feels like it!:green gri

I think you really need it off in one bit to drill the brass jobbie in one place by the bolt to relive the pressure of the tight bolts and then glue the bugger back in!
SOrry I'm not more help mate but Haven't stripped that bit orf one of them yet!

Try Muppet he's donating his bikes organs (for a price! perhaps at somewhat inflated rates but?????) to help others keep theirs going!!!

spinning screw insert in head light surround removed:thumb

drill head off, remove surround, take out stood (not as easy) well ceased in, so had to remove insert, then remove stood (stood is snapped screw which i drilled head off) with heat n a bit of twisting in vice.
this has buggered the knurl on insert:blast

remedy...wrap electrical wire around insert , mix up araldite glue, put new screw to insert , push and screw back into head light housing, leave to dry
hey presto fixed insert:D

use more lube on new ss fixins so it doesnt happen agian:augie
