Just becaome the proud owner of a 96 GS1100 with just the 56,000 miles:D .

Lovely bike but I need either new shock absorbers or the original`s serviced.

Also looking for braided (steel) brake lines.

Anybody got any ideas where I can obtain these?

Shocks n that

Hi Chris

Used shocks come up from time to time in the For Sale and wanted section. I've got a used Ohlin there now which is "under offer".

I also happen to have everything you need braided-hose wise for the front brakes if yours is a non-abs version. Cost me £50, so yours for £30

You can get OE shocks serviced at All Bike Engineering for between £75 and £150 depending on how much needs doing. Ask for Nick.

HEL are tops for all braided hose stuff.

Enjoy your bike! Not even run in yet ....

Thanks Nin

The old girl is an ABS version so I`ll keep hunting for the hoses and check out the sites for the shocks.

The bikes runs lovely a really is smooth. My 1200GS`A sounds a like someone`s emptied a box of nails in the washing machine compared with the 1100...!! It`s a US import and has done 2 trips to Alaska so the log book makes fantastic reading on it`s own!!:thumb

Nice bike ...

.. and as for hoses I got a set of HEL ones for my ABS 1100 off Steptoe; not sure if he's still doing them as apparently there were some issues with differing fittings. Mine fitted perfectly :nenau

Hopefully not a silly question...are they new or used?

Cheers

Hi Adie

used but not very much - only about 100 miles.

It's one long one from Master Cylinder to RH caliper

Then one from RH caliper to LH caliper via a double Banjo Bolt on the RH caliper

The same set-up as Tarka uses

The bike is going to be replaced with an ABS version, so it's surplus to requirements.

Can take some pics tommorrow if you like?

BMW spares

if only you had made a trip to the devonshire beach this weekend there may have been some BMW spares going for nowt, washed up from a stricken vessel so i believe.

Thanks Nin

Hi Chris

I do have a thing for them meself. In Worcester you're very close to Vern - whose current 1100 must be over 150k miles by now. Might be worth hooking up wiht him as he's a font of knowledge.

All the best

Sorry for all the questions....are they standard length? I may be playing with bar position and type soon. My bars are already raised an inch and the pipes are tight on full lock (standard pipes AFAIK) If I alter the route they take may give a bit more. Mines a 98 vintage are the lines suitable? Pic might be nice if its not too much trouble :thumb2 .

Hi Adie

No worries - questions are good.

I can do a pic tonite - but they're not on the bike now. Yes they are long enough for bar risers - I was running Renthal bars with 1 3/4" risers and the set-up was fine for that - the hose from caliper to master cylinder is longer than standard and gives plenty of free play.

98 is a fine vintage - shouldn't be a problem. If there was you could just send em back.
