GS1100 v 955i Tiger (longish)

Sorry Keeff

I guess you regulars getting cheesed off with the story is an unfortunate by-product. As long as the situation remains the same, I'm afraid that I'll continue to publicise my story to new people looking to buy a B*W. After all, that's what this section of the site's all about isn't it? After all, it's not that my views aren't balanced or rational. The GS is a great bike and I have made numerous postings to that effect. You'll notice that I rearly mention my experiences of B*W these days other than my signature. However, if somebody makes an incorrect assumption about the matter (that it was just a dealer problem) then I do feel the necessity to set the record straight.

So....sorry if it's a bit tedious but enough others have now contacted me to demonstrate that I'm not alone and that my voice is being heard............now, where to next with my leaflets?

Thanks for the intro Keef but...

Actually it's not my place to say who should or shouldn't post. As a moderator I have rights and responsibilites but nothing more than that.

Sanguine (Steve) whom I have met a couple of times now is intelligent enough to know what the the reaction of people is to what he has chosen to do. He is in my opinion an affable chap who does (by his own admission) come across on this board as a nag and a bore and this is probably because they have little else to go on, i.e. not many other posts, not often 'off duty' from the cause and on occasion he has been to our do's a shrinking violet.

I have tried to cajole the locals into attending the BBQ he is organising for the Kent Air Ambulance (a cause no motorcylist will disagree to being very worthwhile), by all accounts it sounds like a smashing do but as soon as I mention thesanguine - well mud sticks and the net result is that very few (if any) Gs'ers will go. No doubt it will be a great success, I understand from Steve it usually is and I hope it will be - just a shame GSer's won't feel they should attend for fear of a lecture or a leafleting or BOTH!! :(

That's a fair post Andy

If GS'rs don't want to attend cos they think I've got BO, that's OK, I really don't have a problem with that, the tickets are going quite well anyway. However, that doesn't stop anybody sending a cheque to support the cause if they so desire (especially bearing in mind that my company have agreed to double any contributions up to £350).

Anything therefore you feel disposed to give will be thankfully received and faithfully applied.... ;-)

In any event......no soapbox, I promise (even if I will have a mike in front of me for a fair proportion of the time!)

Try the R100GS drive shaft. THAT demanded a recall but BMW denied that there was a problem at the time.
11 (eleven) years later they send all the owners a letter telling them to get it inspected by their dealer. No doubt hoping for some work and some dosh for labour!! NOT FUNNY!

I'm with thesanguine. I promise you that you won't regret getting a Trumpet. Join the RATs and have loads of fun and meet loads of new poeple/friends. I have. It's a bit like this club for the social side of things.

Cheers Howard

I remember reading else where that with that case, owners got the letter and were then charged to put it right!

What's the address of the trumpet owners club?

Mr Sanguine,WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO GIVE IT A FUCKIN REST. I think by now we all (the entire world probably) know your unfortunate story. We did sympathise, but as the years go on it starts to annoy.

Bored now!

Can someone please make this go away?

Buy a GS, you know it makes sense

You don't have to keep clicking on this thread you know. It's optional. It's a free BB and he 's entitled to keep reminding you and everyone else as long as he likes. You don't have to keep listening though.

I have a favourite pub, where the beer is good and the company convivial. Occasionally this person comes in who, whilst quite a nice person, moans about the same things every time he comes in. We try to avoid talking about certain topics because we know that we will have to listen to his well worn opinions on them.
Do you think that I should forsake all the things I enjoy about this pub, (Betty Nichols. High St Kirkcaldy) all because of this one person. Or should I tell him to shut the fuck up. I think it should be the latter option. I probably wont as he is bigger than me, but as Mr Gates has not incorporated a punch senders face button in windows (yet) I feel that I can vent my, and i am sure several other members feelings on Mr sanguins very unfortunate past problems.
OK, here is my main reason for commenting on this thread.
The originator of this post, Stef, a very handsome and intellegent man, with a lovely wife, came to view MY totally reliable BMW. Now, there is a wise man indeed. A shining beacon in the fog of humanity, a person you could sit and drink with, a possible leader of the Scottish parliament, a person who woudnt have any unworn bits on the edge of his tyres..... is that enough Steve?

Stef,

Good choice and hope to see you at some of the meetings.

Personally, I think Dennis's 1100 looked damned good........much better than that terrible 1150 he's got now! :)

I don't think I'll even bother replying to provocative posts like that!

Tiger Vs GS

:) It started as Tiger vs Gs. I owned two Tigers, in fact 4 Hinckley Triumphs in Total, a 750 Trident (really underrated, a 900 Sprint, and (2) 885 i Tigers ! The first I only kept for two months, replaced with another... Why ? Amazing but true. I bought a 3 month old one from a well known dealership in the middle of the country. I was told and knew it was on the Triumph fleet and in its short life was showing 6K. This was reflected in the price. Lots of things had been renewed on it, new chain sprockets for example. It was in fairness 'gleaming' Got hooked on giant trailees then. No problems with it and really enjoyed it, a nice yellow one ! Before buying same I checked with Triumph and was told the full history of the thing, how it had been around europe, the press used it, but as a result no expense was spared on the thing as it had to be top notch. There i was a few weeks later reading the mags in WH Smiths, as you do, and guess what.. In 'Ride' or 'Bike' i see a group test of Tiger Vs GS Vs another. I see my Pride and joy being ridden in the sea at Newquay as part of the test !! I showed it to her indoors and shrugged my shoulders, however sea water and motorbikes ?? It stuck and would not go away so I ended up trading the thing in for another ex demo that had done 350 miles. I was infact allowed £100 more in PX than I had paid for the thing. I kept that one for 18 months, 12K miles. The Triumph is a cracking ride and has character. It also has chain drive, and the partner found it really poor two up in regards comfort. For that reason it went. I had a year on a varadera which was also the tops before my GS. This one will stay the course. This is my first Beemer and impressed all round. What ever a punter chooses in the giant traillee class, it is all pretty good, however i for one would not go back the other way....... :clap
