I am about to upgrade the horn on my 1150gs for a set of Fiamms.

The Fiamms come with a choice of wiring solutions - one for a Grounded Horn Button and the other for a Horn Button Connected to Positive.

Can someone tell me which solution I need (and how do you tell?)

Thanks,

Mike

Disconnect the live side of the horn. Connect a mutimeter set to ohmns between either side of the horn and chassis an if it shows a short to ground (0 Ohmns) you have button connected to live. If it shows an open cct operate the button it will go short cicuit (0 Ohmns) this indicates a button to earth.

Took a look at the wiring diagrams for you Mike, it is the +12V that is switched. So you need the "Horn Button Connected to Positive" one.
Cheers,
Michel

Thanks very much for the responses - Michel especially as I do not possess a multimeter.

Having said that I am still not sure what connects where - have emailed Motobins for advice. In the meantime, if anyone has fitted the twin fiamm horn kit then let me know how you did it!

Michel - my GS is currently std but I have sent the past few months prioritising my upgrades. I have the Fiamms and a Remus to fit this weekend (I'm sure I'll have fun with the Remus!).

My next upgrade will be some additional lighting at which point I will be in touch for a pair of your brackets - saw a set at Princetown - very nice.

What do these Fiamms sound like? I am looking for a truck horn equivalent so that on the rare occaission that I hoot...............
The f***er hops, skips and just gets the F*** out of my way!
:shoot:

They sound brilliant - many years ago I had an R80/7 with them fitted - you get to see car drivers physically jump when they hear them. The cost is also pretty good - £21.91 inc p+p from Motobins.

All I need to do now is figure out how to fit them!

Here you go Mike:
ground = brown
+12V = green/grey

Depending on the power the Fiamms need, you may have to install a relay and extra wires + fuse. The stock horn is on a 7.5A fuse (no. 4 counting from the left side of the bike). So in theory that's enough for 90W.
