Can anyone help ?:nenau

I have a GS1150 03 plate, with a Remus and Y,pce fitted,
the remus can is to close to the panniers, and Pannier rack, I have spaced out the fixing bolt to the extent that the back of the can fixing bracket is lifting at its end where it joins the can, I am now struggling to get the pannier on its rack as I have had to slightly bend the rack, for it to clear the can,I have loosened the can where it fits the Y pc'e and tried to adjust but stil no joy!
is there more than one type of bracket for this can, or will I have to gey it heated and bent to try and cure?

Anyone else come across this problem? or any advise?

Cheers Bob:beerjug:

In my case it was due to the Y Piece - not all have exactly the right bends, some work, some don't.

I tried all sorts of spacers and other "fixes" and wasn't happy with any of them. In the end I had a wedge shaped insert welded into the Y Piece so that the Remus would clear my Al Jesse panniers.

It was done to push the bottom of the Remus out about 40mm and at the same time move the top in about 25mm - it now clears the panniers by about 30mm along it's whole length, perfect.

unbolt everything

Bob. I'm no expert, but this worked for me. unbolt the y at the header pipe joint and the can, make sure the fittings are free, then try and reset the can and bolt it up, then bolt up the y last. I found that the small amount of play in the joint between the header pipes and the y gave me what i needed.
good luck.

Hi Bob, exactly my problem with y piece and Remus.. I have made a ruff bodge, namely a small insert onto the bolt that holds Remus to the frame, and replaced the existing bolt with a longer one. Doesn't really work very well, I have to admit :(

I might well have to try one of the above options...probably loosening the Y piece etc. If anyone has a better solution, I'm up for it !

There is at least one different sort of bracket.

It's a very long and convoluted story but I had a similar problem and only when I checked my old, rock-desroyed remus bracket did I find it was a different length and had a different kink to it than the one supplied as new.

Is it available from Remus or someone ? Different kink sounds like fun ...:P

Remus

I did try N.Normans, available but 3 weeks delivery time,(20 quid) this would be an option if I could get one quicker, any thoughts where else I might try, or anyone have one of these lyiing around ????

Hi Bob, searched on Nippy N's site, and can't find a mention of a bracket anywhere -checked Remus and Akrapovic, and even Trax panniers ...but £20 ..bit pricey for a wee bracket !! So, have you a part number or link please ?

REMUS

Hi Roger,
This is the number quoted by NN, I have contacted my BM dealer re the bracket, apparently the Adventure bracket is different to the std Gs, it throws the can closer to the wheel.

Still 3 weeks delivery and £25.00 !

I am giving the system a loosen down totally to see if I get enough clearance, if not will order the Adv bkt and hope this clears ???
ONLY TIME WILL TELL:nenau

:beerjug:Bob.

Thanks Bob -let me know how the "loosening" session goes -that will be my next step as well.
I guess the fancy new bracket must be slightly longer, and have a steeper angle between the silencer and frame -only way I can see it throwing/twisting silencer in towards the wheel.
Anyhow -many thanks for the info , and post up results if you would please .
Cheers Roger

Remus

Hi Roger,

Been adjusting thismorning, no luck at all:blast
Looks like the new bracket, 3 weeks waiting time:nenau

Hi Bob,
been in touch with NN, nd Norman kindly sent me a couple of pictures ...
first one is for 1150 GS ,
second one is the longer extended bracket for GSA.
It seems that what I have on my GSA is the standard Remus bracket, and NOT the Adventure bracket. So, had to stump up £24, and, apparently 7 days delivery .
Just hope it does the trick, as it is mighty close to the panniers at present.

PS pictures courtesy of Nippy Normans !!

Hi Bob,
I'm really not a very lucky person I've come to believe ....

"Dear Mr Chatter (sic)
We have checked further with Remus and just changing the bracket only will not solve the problem - the silencer and pipe are also incorrect.
We will cancel the order for the bracket.
Sorry - we could not help you at this time.
Kind Regards

So, if you have the adventure, like me, ....!!!! Bugger. Guess I could go the stubby and collector box route, but I don't have a collector !! :blast:blast:blast
Ideas anyone ?

And Mr Dave GS -don't even bother posting an EBay response, or I'll reveal all ...IYKWIM......:pullface
