OK, since you guys seem to relsih these questions, here's a hard one for you.
I'm riding an R1150R for the moment and have half a mind to change to a GS, question is, which?
These are the pros and cons:
1150AdvSE - excellent spec for the money and my system cases will fit, but v. high seat (I'm 5'11") and my mate has one exactly the same.
1150Adv - less spec for more money, but my cases will fit, slightly lower seat and I can get a different colour to my oppo.
GS1200 - slightly more money for the same spec, ?bit more fragile?, my cases won't fit, but its lighter, lower and newer.

Whaddya think?

Horses for courses ! Personal view from someone that had a 1200.... dont go there. I now have an Adventure with everything (abs servo heated grips) on it. It's built like a tonka... the 1200 is not. But this is a personal opinion and will be contradicted by someone with a 1200.

Sort of...

I had an 1150GS for 6 years. It was built like a Tonka and the 1200GS that I now have is not.

The 1200GS is lighter, faster, smoother, with better brakes (I didn't have the servos on the old one, just ABS) and definitely the better road bike. I wouldn't trust it to go long distances off road, because it doesn't feel robust enough and I think there's too much technology there for it to be easily fixable outside Western Europe/USA/(you know what I mean).

For me, a big improvement all round - but I'm a road rider, not an adventure tourer person. If you don't want to go to Mongolia and are happy with tarmac roads I think you'll love it.

If the 1200GS didn't exist I'd still be very happy with the 1150, mind...

GS1150 v GS1200

I agree with nleader. When the 1200 came out I was happily riding my 1150 convinced that it was, at long last, the ideal 'bike for me. After reading the road tests on the 1200 I did not dare visit my dealer for a test ride - because I knew that I could be wrong and that BMW had made progress in the 4 years since the 1150 arrived. So now, about a year after swopping my 1150 for THE VERY MUCH SUPERIOR 1200, I have no regrets ! But what about that K1200R - I am NOT going to even read any more about it. I am afraid that these machines do get better and better and our only hope for a more economical future is to develop a taste for 'classic' bikes - but they were all really awful by comparison when I rode them when they were new ! It would be the Adventure SE, I'm bias though, because I've just bought one :thumb

I guess it's more agricultural than the 12, but that's why I like it!

BMW have obviously hit the spot to lure people to the 1200 with it's good road manners etc etc, that's great if you're after a bike that looks like a big trailie, but in reality isn't. It's a road bike that really doesn't compare to the 1150 ad. To me, they really are different machines all together to suite different needs.

For me to have considered a 1200 would have been a waste of time, I may as well gone out and bought another Gixxer 750!

;)

1150GSA vs 1150GSA SE

The suspension, frame etc and hence the height of the 2 1150 GSA bikes is identical the difference being the gearbox, ABS and heated grips included plus a different colour scheme.
You can fit the lower ADV seat to either bike but it comes in black, black or black, so you lose your nice coloured seat (eg blue on the GSA SE). The cost of the lower seat is about £150 from memory. I have one on my SE and had one on my nornal GSA which I traded in. It lowers the ride by about an inch. I am 5ft 9""by the way.
So, go with the SE!

Got an Adv SE last week , I'm 6ft 1in and had to order a low seat . Carn't wait to get both feet on the ground . I tried the 1200 but found to much vibration in the throttle grip , every one i spoke to who has owned both prefer the 1150 Adv . JB

Just picked up my Adventurer SE I chose it after speaking to the BM mechanics,
If you like to work on your own bike or fit electrical accessories the 1150 is the way to go.
The new 1200 needs dealer support, just fitting an intercom or fog lights to a 1200 is agro.
