GS ARRIVED JULY WITH GREY STANDARD HEIGHT SEATS (I HAD ORDERED BLACK) WE FOUND THEM VERY UNCOMFORTABLE.
LAST 4 BIKES HAD CORBIN SEATS. BLACK ONES ARRIVED BUT RIDER’S SEAT WAS A HIGH ONE, AT 5FT 10” I COULD STILL TOUCH THE FLOOR. THE HIGH SEAT IS MUCH FLATTER WITH MORE SUPPORT UNDER THIGHS AND DOES NOT HOLD YOU IN ONE POSITION. HAVE DONE SOME 400 + MILE RIDES AND NO ACHES OR PAINS. NO NEED NOW TO BUY CORBIN SEAT.
HAVE TAKEN STANDARD PASSENGER SEAT OFF COMPLETELY AND MOUNTED A PLATE WITH AIR HAWK FASTENED TO THE LUGGAGE GRID. SEAT HEIGHT ABOUT 3" LOWER THAN STANDARD, WIFE NOW SITS AT SAME LEVEL AS ME AND CAN GET ON AND OFF BIKE WITHOUT STANDING ON FOOT REST.
SHE’S 5FT 2”. WIFE’S NOW COMFORTABLE AND DOESN’T FEEL PERCHED ON THE BACK. C OF G IS LOWER, 2 UP CONFIDENCE AND HANDLING IMPROVED. TAKEN REAR RACK OFF, THAT WAS TOO HIGH WITH LUGGAGE ROLL FASTENED TO IT. MADE NEW RACK WITH SIDE GRAB HANDLES. NOW SITS ABOUT 1” ABOVE TOP OF REAR LIGHT. AGAIN LOWERING C OF G FOR TWO UP TOURING. PLANNING TO GO TO MOROCCO IN MAY WITH THIS SET UP.

Interesting post Dennis.

Welcome to the site - as a note of forum etiquette please note that caps are considered as SHOUTING. We're old on here but not that deaf yet :D :D :D

Dennis, if I understand you correctly, the BM high seat may be what I'm looking for?

I feel like a lot of my weight is being taken on the hard rear edge of the seat (cocyx?) and none by my thighs etc., and/or I'm being pushed forwards by the forward slope. The standard feels too low at the front, and yet some of the aftermarket ones seem even more scooped out, whereas it seems to me I want a flatter (and possibly wider) one.

Does this sound familiar, and is cured by the BM high one? D'you know how much they are? Or maybe if I'm lucky someone has a high one and wants to swap!

GS 12 Comfort Seat

Sorry for shouting.Taken pics but having problems posting them. How do you get the pictures to attach.

I've read elsewhere a suggestion to have the front of the rider's seat set to high and the rear set to low. I can't vouch for this personally as I have the low seat which only has one setting.

Thanks, Zmeagol, but I've done that (contrary to the manual), but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be enough.

Hi,

I got the Corbin seats from Battistinis fter seeing pictures of them on this 'ere site.

They cost a bit, but I think they support you better even though they are harder - and I'm not contantly squashing my nads by getting thrown forward on the seat.

PS ..and you can get a nice little back rest thingy

Cheers

Blimey Dennis, for a second there I though my Dad had learned to ride and join this forum :yikes His name is Denis Compton.

Sorry for the useless post.

Could be a bit of confusion here!

Spoke to my dealer today, regarding a "high" BMW seat, and he pointed out that there isn't one - only a "standard" and a "low", so I guess I've already got the highest ("standard").

GS Seats

Definately three seat options,
low is none adjustable for height
standard is adjustable to two seat heights
high seat is adjustable to two seat heights
Unfortunately some dealers regard us as punters and sell units and not bikes. The pics should be on site tomorrow.

There's definitely three options, as Dennis said.
"low is none adjustable for height
standard is adjustable to two seat heights
high seat is adjustable to two seat heights"
I ordered mine with a high seat, but it didn't arrive with the bike, so rode for 3500km with the stock seat, then finally got the high seat.
I find the seat slopes forward too much, I tried the front high/rear low setting, its a bit better but neither is quite right.
Still it doesn't stop me enjoying the ride though!

wa_r1200gs, are you saying that even the high one slopes forward too much?

High seat on high/high setting does slope forward, on rear low/front high its better.

I'm 195cm / 6'5" and tend to sit right at the back of the seat, where there is always a bit of a forward slope.

One thing I haven't messed with yet is the handlebar position, this will affect seating posture too.

done 40 thousand miles and some700 mile days on standard seat and Im 6foot 2 the answer is a sheepskin seat cover also the wife thinks rear seat most comfortable in a long time

I had some ali spacers machined to raise the front mounting bracket some more (equivalent to another notch, 23mm), and therefore have the front one notch higher than high, and the rear on the lowest. There's a biggish gap between the seat and tank, but I've got used to it, and my Heattroller velcros in there nicely. If I'm off-road, I can put it into a lower position (= BMW's high position).

Plus I've still got the right colours (I'm now on an ADV)!

This is the best solution I've yet found, after trying Corbin, Sargent, and Airhawk. Although I haven't tried the sheepskin option. I'm 6'2" BTW.
