Right then, new coil and connector fitted (tidy soldering I must say too!).
Still runs on one, left cylinder hot, right cylinder cool.
Swapped coils & plugs over.
Still runs on one, left cylinder hot, right cylinder cool.
Checked right side injector, removed and fired up, nice neat spray pattern.
So, I have sparks and fuel both sides.
I'll check valves next.
Any other ideas?

Right, found it! Took some finding but got there in the end.
The right hand side throttle cable had seized open.
A liberal squirt of WD40 sorted it.

Great. Glad you got it sorted.....but a good thread for solutions to those sort of niggly problems
my 06 had this in 2008.
no tickover on o/s but chimed in once you accelerated.
smelt of fuel and seemed to use more (I had to use it for about 200 miles like it)
BMW assist swapped everything over and ended up sending it to SBW.
was the idle control valve.
as it was warranty they fitted a whole new throttle body.
